A shadowing compensation device for a solar cell module has an input port, an isolated DC-DC power converter, and an output port. The input port is connected to two output ends of a solar cell array including multiple solar cell modules connected in series. The output port is connected to one of the multiple solar cell modules of the solar cell array. When one of the solar cell modules connected to the output port of shadowing compensation device has been shaded, the isolated DC-DC power converter outputs a compensating current to the solar cell module that has been shaded for increasing the output voltage of the solar cell module that has been shaded, and increasing the output voltage and output power of the solar cell array.

A bi-directional DC to DC power converter includes two DC sources, two inductors respectively connected to the two DC sources, a first switch and a second switch respectively connected to the two inductors, two capacitors respectively connected to the two switches, and a third switch connected between the two inductors. The first, second and third switches are respectively connected reversely with a diode in parallel. When the third switch is alternately turned on and off and the first and second switches are always turned off, the power converter operates as a boost power converter and electric energy flows from the two DC sources to the two capacitors. When the third switch is always turned off and the first and second switches are synchronously turned on or off, the power converter operates as a buck power converter and electric energy flows from the two capacitors to the two DC sources.

Bi-directional DC to DC power converter having a neutral terminal

A DC to AC inverter has a DC power input port, a buck converter, a buck/boost converter, an output filter and an AC output port. The DC power input port has a positive input terminal and a negative input terminal, both connected to a DC source. The AC output port is connected to a single-phase utility system. When the single-phase utility system is in positive half cycle, the buck converter generates a positive half-cycle signal of sinusoidal current. When the single-phase utility system is in negative half cycle, the buck/boost converter generates a negative half-cycle signal of sinusoidal current. In either the positive or negative half cycles, only one power electronic switch is switched in high frequency to reduce switching loss. Further, the negative input terminal of the DC power input port of the invention can be connected to a neutral line of the single-phase utility system.

A battery-charging device, having a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) function, for a stand-alone generator system includes a DC/DC power converter and a control circuit used to control the DC/DC power converter. The method applied in the device includes: performing a MPPT function to supply a continuous current when the electric power generated from the electrical power source of the stand-alone generator system is low; operating a pulse charging function and continuing the MPPT function when the electric power generated from the electrical power source of the stand-alone generator system is high and not greater than the summation of the load power and a maximum charging power of the pulse charging method for the battery; terminating the MPPT function while the electric power is greater than the summation of the load power and the maximum charging power of the pulse charging method for the battery; and operating a constant-voltage charging mode when the battery voltage is greater than a predetermined constant charging voltage.

Battery-charging device for a stand-alone generator system having a MPPT function and method thereof

A three-leg power converter apparatus including first, second and third input/output ports, a three-leg bridge converter, a filter circuit, a decoupling circuit and a controller is presented. The three-leg bridge converter has three single-leg circuits, two DC terminals connecting to two terminals of the first input/output port, and three mid-terminals with each of them being formed by a middle point of one of the three single-leg circuits. The controller connects to the three-leg bridge converter for controlling an input or output current passing through each DC terminal and mid-terminal. The filter circuit connects between two of the mid-terminals and the second input/output port. The decoupling circuit has two terminals connecting to the second input/output port and another terminal connecting to a terminal of the third input/output port, with the third input/output port having another terminal connecting to the other mid-terminal that dose not connect with the filter circuit.

A ripple voltage suppression apparatus includes a DC/DC converter and a control circuit. The DC/DC converter has a power electronic switch. The control circuit has a voltage detector detecting a DC output voltage of the DC/DC converter, a ripple voltage suppression circuit receiving the detected DC output voltage to generate an AC control signal for controlling an AC component of a duty ratio of the power electronic switch, an output voltage regulation circuit receiving the detected DC output voltage to generate a DC control signal for controlling an DC component of a duty ratio, an adder adding the AC and DC control signals to form a combined control signal, and a PWM circuit converting the combined control signal into a PWM signal to control the power electronic switch. Only the DC output voltage of the DC/DC converter has to be detected for the control circuit.

An islanding detection apparatus for a distributed generation power system and a detection method therefor operates a power converter to act as a virtual capacitor or inductor at a frequency close to but unequal to that of a utility power system under abnormal condition of the utility power system. When power failure occurs in the utility power system, only the distributed generation power system supplies power to a load so that a load voltage has been changed in at least one of amplitude and frequency which can be immediately detected islanding phenomenon.

A bidirectional active power conditioner includes a DC side, a bidirectional DC/DC power converter, a DC/AC inverter and an AC side. The active power conditioner can supply a stable AC voltage to a load when a voltage variation occurs at an AC power source by controlling either the second power electronic switch set or the third power electronic switch set via high-frequency switching, and the other power electronic switch sets that are not switched in high frequency are controlled to switch in low-frequency switching.

An active power conditioner, connecting with a load and a power source in parallel, includes a DC power capacitor, a power converter, a high-frequency filter and a control circuit. The control circuit detects the voltage of the DC power capacitor and the current of the power source, thereby performing a closed loop control to stabilize the voltage of the DC power capacitor and performing a feed forward control to generate a driving signal for driving the power converter. The power converter actuates the DC power capacitor to supply a current via the high-frequency filter to reduce the reactive and harmonic components of load current. The load is converted to the linear resistance characteristic, observed from the power source side.

A diagnosis method for SOH of batteries includes the steps of: providing data of discharge voltages and currents of a battery unit; setting an acceptable value of a predetermined period of time and an acceptable range of variation rate of discharge current for the battery unit; calculating variation rates of discharge voltages and currents of the battery unit within the predetermined period of time by using the data of discharge voltages and currents; recording the data of discharge voltages and currents of the batteries and variation rates thereof; comparing the data of discharge voltages of the batteries and the variation rates thereof if the variation rates of discharge current are fallen within the acceptable range of current variation with selected reference data; and converting results of compared data of discharge voltages of the battery unit and the variation rates thereof into a SOH index.

A switching device for RS-232 serial port and USB serial port is adapted to simultaneously provide a RS-232 serial port and a USB serial port for a micro-processor with a single USART. A maximum power point tracking method, applied to a tracking device, employs a DC/DC converter connecting with a solar cell array, and including a controller actuating the DC/DC converter to perform an active resistance characteristic; a maximum power point tracking circuit adjusting the active resistance of the DC/DC converter; monitoring a change of an output power of the solar cell array in determining a direction for adjusting the active resistance of the DC/DC converter; and the maximum power point tracking circuit repeatedly adjusting the active resistance of the DC/DC converter. A backup power supply system supplies power from a first ac power source in normal condition. Once the first ac power source is abnormal or fails, the system automatically turns off the first ac power source and turns on a second ac power source with null transfer time. When the first ac power source is normal, a dc/ac power inverter is controlled to supply an approximately null current such that a mechanical switch is allowed to be closed and no circulating current is generated between the first ac power source and the dc/ac power inverter. Since the mechanical switch is continuously closed, and requires no switching operation, the backup power supply system can supply the backup power with a null transfer time.

An active type harmonic suppression apparatus, connected in parallel to a power feeder, supplies a compensation current for injecting into the power feeder such that a utility current of a power source is approached to a sinusoidal wave. The control circuit retrieves a load current, a utility current, an output current of the power converter, a power source voltage and a voltage of the dc power capacitor for calculating and sending a reference signal of compensation voltage to a pulse-width-modulation circuit which generates switching signals for the power converter. Furthermore, the harmonic suppression apparatus can provide a fixed or variable reactive power.
