A reconfigurable antenna array capable of utilizing a common antenna aperture which can cover a wide frequency range in a continuous way. With the basic antenna element based on a slot-ring and using a self similar structure approach and RE' switches, the antenna array operates without grating lobes. The antenna array exhibits polarization diversity and single-side radiation capability. When varactors are implemented into the array, the antenna array can cover the frequency range by continuously tuning the center frequency with a relatively narrow instantaneous bandwidth.

Reconfigurable antenna array and associated method of use

A resonator for sensing a physical or an environmental parameter includes a support having a top surface that provides a ground plane, and a polymer-derived ceramic (PDC) element positioned on the top surface including a PDC layer, and a metal patch on the PDC layer. The metal patch is electrically isolated from all surrounding structure, and the resonator has a resonant frequency that changes as a function of the physical or environmental parameter. A system for wirelessly sensing a physical or environmental parameter includes at least one resonator and a wireless RF reader located remotely from the resonator for transmitting a wide-band RF interrogation signal that excites the resonator. The wireless RF reader detects a sensing signal retransmitted by the resonator and includes a processor for determining the physical or environmental parameter at the location of the resonator from the sensing signal.

Low-profile wireless passive resonators for sensing

An integrated cavity filter/antenna system includes a substrate, a cavity filter formed in or on the substrate. A first cavity resonator is in or on the substrate that is enclosed by metal walls. At least a second cavity resonator is formed in or on the substrate that is enclosed by metal walls. An inter-resonator coupling structure couples energy between the first cavity resonator and the second cavity resonator. An antenna is integrated with one of the cavity resonators so that the antenna acts as both a port of the cavity filter and as a radiating element for the filter/antenna system. A connector is coupled to one of the cavity resonators for coupling energy into the filter/antenna system.

Integrated cavity filter/antenna system

A polymer-derived ceramic (PDC) element is positioned on or within the substrate surface. The RF resonator has a resonant frequency that changes as a function of the physical or environmental parameter. A system for wirelessly sensing at least one physical or environmental parameter includes at least one RF resonator and a wireless RF reader located remotely from the RF resonator for transmitting a wide-band RF interrogation signal that excites the RF resonator. The wireless RF reader detects a sensing signal retransmitted by the RF resonator and includes a processor for determining the physical or environmental parameter at the location of the RF resonator from the sensing signal.
