A MIMO radar transceiver assembly includes a plurality of transceiver circuit regions and a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas include a first transmit antenna coupled to a first transceiver circuit region among the plurality of transceiver circuit regions, a first receive antenna coupled to the first transceiver circuit region, a second transmit antenna coupled to a second transceiver circuit region among the plurality of transceiver circuit regions, and a second receive antenna coupled to the second transceiver circuit region. At least one of the second transmit antenna and the second receive antenna is interleaved between the first transmit antenna and the first receive antenna. Interleaving of the antennas can increase virtual aperture and angular resolution of the radar system without increasing physical dimensions of the transceiver assembly.

Systems and methods for improved angular resolution in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar

Disclosed systems and methods include a multiple-in-multiple-out ('MIMO') antenna array, wherein the arrangement of antenna elements provide relatively good angular resolution for RADAR while reducing the presence of grating lobes. Transmitter and receiver antenna elements can be spaced such as to improve performance with reduced cost. In some embodiments, the transmitter and/or receiver antenna elements can be spaced at unit distances of a half-wavelength +/&#x2212;10% or +/&#x2212;25%. In some embodiments, the first receiver antenna element is at a four-unit distance from a second receiver antenna element, a third receiver antenna element at a one-unit distance from the second receiver antenna element, and a fourth receiver antenna element at a two-unit distance from the third receiver antenna element.

Methods and apparatus for a MIMO radar

Methods and systems for cancelling continuous wave interference in radar systems include defining an integration time period, dividing the integration time period into sub-periods during which the radar sensor system transmits a radar signal integrating a detected signal during both sub-periods to generate sub-period integrated values, wherein integration in the sub-periods is triggered at points of symmetrical opposite polarities of a down converted interferer signal having a non-integer number of cycles in each sub-period, and adding tire respective sub-period integrated values to cancel interference residue of opposite polarity in the respective sub-periods.

System and method for continuous wave interference cancellation

A radar system and method with reduced multipath effects include a first component of a radar sensor module on which at least one antenna element is formed, the at least one antenna element having a surface at which radar radiation is received or transmitted, the at least one antenna element having a radiation aperture. A second component in proximity to the antenna element such that a portion of the radar radiation impinges on the second component comprises an angled surface forming an angle with the surface of the antenna element. The angled surface of the second component comprises a texture such that when the portion of the radiation impinges on the angled surface, the amount of multipath signal propagating through the radiation aperture of the antenna element is reduced.

Apparatus and method for mitigating multipath effects and improving absorption of an automotive radar module

In a frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar processing system and method, a linear frequency ramp signal is defined. The linear ramp signal is divided into a plurality of time sections. The sections of the linear ramp signal are rearranged in time such that the plurality of sections define a transmit control signal different than the linear ramp signal. A radar transmission signal is generated having a frequency varying with time according to the transmit control signal, and the radar transmission signal is transmitted into the region of interest. An intermediate frequency (IF) signal is generated using the radar transmission signal and radar receive signals received from the region of interest, a frequency of the IF signal being a difference between the frequency of the radar transmission signal and a frequency of the radar receive signals. The IF signal is low-pass filtered. Radar processing is performed on the low-pass-filtered IF signal.

Apparatus and method for mitigating interference in a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) automotive radar system

A housing for a radar sensor module has a back surface and a plurality of side surfaces connected to the back surface. A vent structure is connected to the back surface and at least one of the side surfaces. The vent structure includes an enclosure enclosing a chamber. A first opening in the vent structure penetrates the at least one of the side surfaces of the housing, such that the chamber is exposed to an exterior of the housing. A second opening in the vent structure penetrates the enclosure such that the chamber is exposed to an interior of the housing.

An electrical gasket provides an electrical seal between first and second components in an electrical module. The electrical gasket includes an attachment portion for fixedly attaching the electrical gasket to one of the first and second components and a plurality of spring members for engaging the other of the first and second components to make mechanical and electrical contact between the first and second components such that the electrical seal is provided between the first and second electrical components. One of the components of the module can be an EMI shield or printed circuit board of the module, and another of the components can be the module housing.

A low profile antenna array for UWB radar antenna applications is disclosed. It may be used as a mid-range receiving antenna array (RXM) or as a mid-range transmitting antenna array (TXM). In some embodiments, the RXM or the TXM may include a plurality of radiation patch elements formed on a top layer of a printed circuit board (PCB), a distribution feeding network in the mid-layer of the PCB having a patch array, and a serial feeding arrangement from a &#x3bb;/4 coupling slot to each feeding patch. This antenna may have a desirable large frequency bandwidth with relatively flat antenna gain over a frequency range from 22 GHz to 26.5 GHz. In addition, sidelobe levels for the elevation patterns may be below &#x2212;20 dB. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

Antenna array for ultra wide band radar applications

An apparatus for determining the position of a target object using a two-channel monopulse radar. The radar may include two transmitting antennas and one common receiving antenna disposed in a coplanar arrangement. The transmitting antennas may be positioned on the focal plane of the radar along a focal plane axis that extends through, and that is perpendicular with, a boresight axis of the radar. The transmitting antennas may be spaced apart from one another in a first dimension a distance equal to about one half of one wavelength of the radar's center operating frequency. One of the transmitting antennas may be squinted at an angle of &#x3b8;relative to the boresight axis and the other transmitting antenna may be squinted at an angle of &#x3b8;relative to the boresight axis in a second dimension. The transmitting antennas are not squinted relative to one another in the first dimension.

The method includes generating a first single beam antenna pattern, generating a second single beam antenna pattern and transmitting the first and second single beam antenna patterns. The method further includes using phase detection to determine angular information for a detected object based on a phase difference of received signals.
