An array of lenslets include a first surface with a plurality of individual cells defining one side of a respect lenslet, a second opposite surface with a set of grooves defining a second side of the array of lenslets. The array of lenslets is a circular arry having a plurality of concentric rings. Each ring includes a plurality of straight segments, and each segment includes lenslets arranged in a row. The lens is disposed over a carrier having an array of light emitting diodes (LEDS) disposed such that some of the LEDs are offset from a center of an associated cell, or a plurality associated with a shared cell and disposed at different positions along a groove direction.

An apparatus is disclosed including: a light source, a Fresnel lens, and a lens array. The Fresnel lens is disposed upstream from the light source to collimate light output by the light source. The lens array is disposed upstream from the Fresnel lens to mix collimated light that is output from the Fresnel lens. The lens array includes a plurality of optical elements arranged on a substrate. Each optical element includes a respective first planar surface arranged to face towards a different respective portion of the Fresnel lens and a second convex surface arranged to face away from the Fresnel lens.

A flash system for an electronic device includes a ring-shaped light guide having a central opening. A camera lens is positioned in or behind the opening. A first light emitting diode ('LED') is mounted on a printed circuit board ('PCB'), and the LED and PCB are encapsulated by a molded light guide of the flash system. An identical LED and PCB are encapsulated at an opposite end of the molded light guide (i.e., 180 degrees away). The back surfaces of each PCB diffusively reflects light from the LED on the other PCB. Light extraction features on the light guide surface uniformly leak out light from the LEDs. The light emission profile of the light guide has a peak axially aligned with the central opening of the light guide and rolls off to the edge of the camera's field of view.

Various embodiments relate to a lens for omnidirectional illumination being rotationally symmetrical and including a light incident surface, a first refractive surface, a first reflective surface, a second refractive surface, and a third refractive surface. A first portion of light which passed through the light incident surface is refracted by the first refractive surface to produce first emergent light. A second portion of the light which passed through the light incident surface is reflected by the first reflective surface to the second refractive surface, and then is refracted by the second refractive surface to produce second emergent light. A third portion of the light which passed through the light incident surface is refracted by the third light refractive surface to produce third emergent light, the first emergent light, the second emergent light and the third emergent light jointly achieved omnidirectional illumination.
