A controller, while a motor is deactivated and a corresponding inverter is disabled, enables an engine for propulsion of a vehicle such that the motor rotates at a speed due to the propulsion, and commands variable voltage control circuitry to generate a target input voltage for the inverter that is based on a speed limit for the vehicle such that the speed of the motor corresponding to the vehicle travelling results in zero braking torque from the motor and zero charging current flow to a traction battery.

An automotive control system includes a controller for use with an inverter configured to drive a traction motor with electrical energy from a traction battery. The controller is programmed to select a base switching frequency for a control signal for the inverter such that a switching noise sideband frequency of the inverter is the same as a harmonic frequency of the traction motor, modify the selected base switching frequency by a random switching frequency to obtain a modified switching frequency, and control the inverter with the control signal having the modified switching frequency for the inverter to drive the traction motor.

A system and method are disclosed for charging a depleted battery within a first hybrid vehicle when connected to a second hybrid vehicle using a junction box. The system may include a wire harness having high voltage interlock connectors (HVIL) and high voltage (HV) connectors that connected to both the first vehicle and second vehicle. The system may also include one or more controllers that engage the charged battery to start a first engine within the first vehicle or, alternatively, a second engine within the second vehicle. After the first engine or second engine is started, the charged battery will be disconnected and the depleted battery may be connected using a set of HV contactors. The first engine or the second engine may then be operated to charge the depleted battery. Charging may stop when the depleted battery is charged within a specified SoC range.

A vehicle includes a traction battery capable of being selectively coupled to a voltage bus. An inverter selectively couples the voltage bus to an electric machine. A leakage detection circuit including a switching element is connected between the voltage bus and a vehicle chassis. When the traction battery is coupled to the voltage bus and the switching element of the leakage detection circuit is closed, a leakage path in the electric machine may be checked by controlling the inverter to couple terminals of the electric machine to a common conductor of the voltage bus. A leakage path is detected when a leakage resistance associated with the leakage path is less than a predetermined resistance. The leakage resistance is ascertained by measuring a voltage within the leakage detection circuit. A location of the leakage path may be determined based on which components are coupled to the voltage bus.

A vehicle charging system includes a charger configured to receive power form an external power source and a connector. The connector is configured to receive power from the charger and transmit the received power to a vehicle via a high-voltage cable. The cable is configured to connect the connector to a vehicle battery. Each of the charger and the connector includes a high voltage interlock loop (HVIL) configured to cause the charger to cease power transfer upon recognizing a predetermined voltage difference at a pair of ports of the HVIL.
