Provided are servers and methods for authenticating software files. A server includes a processor circuit and a memory coupled to the processor circuit. The memory includes computer program instructions that, when executed by the processor circuit, cause the authentication server to perform operations including verifying, using a public key, signature data corresponding to a single certificate file for authenticating a software installation package file that was signed using a private source key. Operations may include, responsive to verifying that the signature data matches an originally signed single certificate file, reading an image file segment table from the software installation package file. The image file segment table includes multiple records that correspond to ones of multiple image file segments of the software installation package file.

The game controller is configured to provide game play of a wager-based game, including generating gaming information including a hidden element. The game controller is further configured to display at least a portion of the gaming information to the player through the display, wherein the hidden element is not displayed. The game controller is configured to facilitate a data connection between the gaming machine and the portable electronic device through the interface. The game controller is further configured to transmit the hidden element to the portable electronic device.

Disclosed herein are techniques and equipment for saving game history data and package identification information for software packages used to provide a game cycle on a wager gaming machine. The game cycle may later be re-created using the game history data and software packages. For scenarios where some or all of the software packages used are no longer present on the gaming machine at the time of re-creation, the package identification information may be referenced to determine which software packages are missing and need to be provided to enable full game cycle re-creation.

A multi-tiered static chain of trust is established in a computer system which utilizes a first authentication program stored on a first memory device to authentic data stored on a second memory device. If the data stored on the second memory device is authenticated, then a second authentication program stored on the second memory device authenticates data stored on a third memory device. If the data on the third memory device is authenticated the computer system is allowed to utilize the data stored on the third memory device. The data stored on the third memory device is indirectly authenticated while the data is being used by authenticating the data stored on the first memory device.

The gaming machine has a master gaming controller and a network interface. The interface includes an input port supporting a TCP/IP connection which can be used by another network component having the gaming machine's IP address. The gaming machine may also include a Web server operating on the input port. The Web server may receive HTTP messages on the input port even when the gaming machine is powered off. Thus, the machine is capable of receiving an HTTP message at the input port instructing the machine to power on. The gaming machine may also contain a manageability engine processor for executing an active management system software component. This component implements the Web server on the gaming machine.

Gaming machines and systems having a universal interface layer linking a gaming platform to a hardware platform are disclosed. In particular, the universal interface layer is configured such that the gaming platform is hardware platform independent and such that the hardware platform is gaming platform independent. Platform independence can facilitate the interchangeability of one platform without a corresponding need to modify the other platform. The gaming platform can include various gaming modules and an operating system, while the universal interface layer can include firmware, various additional gaming modules, hardware specific drivers and various APIs to facilitate communication between the gaming platform and other universal interface layer components. A safe storage manager can be included to utilize a non-volatile storage component to store data regarding a gaming machine state, with the state being recoverable after a substantial interruption to the machine.

A modular gaming machine system has a first gaming box with a main processor configured to control a game of chance played on the gaming machine by executing game code that uses gaming instructions received from a PCI-e controller. At least one interface is coupled to the first gaming box to receive a PCI Express (PCI-e) bus to communicatively link the PCI-e controller and the main processor. A second gaming box contains the PCI-e controller for communicating with at least one peripheral device on the gaming machine and at least one critical gaming device in communication with the PCI-e controller. There is at least one access port coupled to the second gaming box to receive a free end of the PCI-e bus, wherein the PCI-e bus extends outside the first and second gaming box and is secured by one or more doors, locks, sensors, evidence tape, and/or combinations thereof.

Additionally the technique of the present invention is able to provide a mechanism for seamlessly updating gaming machine components at runtime. This may include, for example, the automatic mounting and/or unmounting of selected games to/from the gaming machine memory during runtime.
