A planar fin for use in a heat sink includes turbulent structures extending from the sides of the planar fin. Each turbulent structure defines a longitudinal axis and having a first edge that is parallel to the longitudinal axis and connected to a planar surface of the fin. Each turbulent structure also includes a second edge opposite the first edged and in free space. The second edge defines a periphery that varies in distance from the first edge along the length of the longitudinal axis. The periphery of each second edge is further shaped such that turbulent flow of a fluid is induced in the flow flowing over the second edge at at least a predefined flow rate.

Heat sink with turbulent structures

A heat distribution device comprising a main body, a recessed cavity positioned within the main body, the recessed cavity having an interior surface, a peripheral wall extending around and defining the interior surface, and a central point within the recessed cavity. A plurality of ribs may extend away from the interior surface of the recessed cavity. The plurality of ribs may be concentrically arranged around the central point and define a plurality of channels therebetween. Each of the plurality of ribs may have a top surface that slopes toward or away from the central point. The plurality of ribs may be arranged so that the top surfaces of the plurality of ribs collectively form a collective sloped surface within the heat distribution device.

The a recessed cavity is positioned within the main body and includes an interior surface, a peripheral wall extending around and defining the interior surface, and a central point within the recessed cavity. A plurality of ribs extend away from the interior surface of the recessed cavity. The plurality of ribs are concentrically arranged around the central point and define a plurality of channels therebetween. Each of the plurality of ribs have a top surface sloping toward the central point. The plurality of ribs are arranged so that the top surfaces of the plurality of ribs collectively form a non-planar surface within the heat distribution device.

A heat sink with a base defining a first side having a base planar surface, and a plurality of planar fins extending from the base planar surface in parallel disposition relative to each other. Each planar fin has a bottom fin edge, a top fin edge, and a leading fin edge. Each planar fin has a fin planar surface and one or more control surfaces. Each of the one or more control surfaces extends from the fin planar surface and is disposed relative to the fin planar surface, the bottom fin edge, and the top fin edge such that a fluid flowing from the leading fin edge is conducted toward the base planar surface.
