A UE performs up to a threshold number of attempts to transmit a default capability message to a base station, the default capability message representing a default set of CA combinations supported by the UE. If transmission is unsuccessful, the UE switches to a compact capability mode in which the UE attempts to transmit compacted UE capability messages representing successively smaller subsets of the default set of CA combinations until either a capability message is successfully received by the base station or a second threshold number of unsuccessful transmission attempts is performed. To facilitate configuration of an initial compacted capability message, the UE maintains a PC list that lists one or more cells that have been identified previously as incapable of receiving default-sized capability messages and that further identifies a representation of a limited subset of CA combinations to include in capability messages sent to a corresponding listed cell.

Adaptive UE capability message compaction

A user equipment (UE) device may reside in a state of dual connectivity with a master cell group (MCG) and a secondary cell group (SCG), wherein the radio access technologies of the MCG and the SCG are different. While in the dual connectivity state, the UE device may transition to a mode of reduced activity (e.g., processing and/or RF activity) relative to the secondary cell group (SCG) in order to save power, e.g., when traffic flow via the SCG is below a threshold, or when scheduling activity on the SCG is low. Various mechanisms may be employed to reduce activity, e.g., mechanisms such as reduction of beam monitoring, deactivation of secondary cells of the SCG, reduction of number of active antenna elements, employment of longer periods for periodic measurement and reporting processes, etc.

This disclosure relates to techniques for supporting cell set based mobility. A network may provide configuration information to a wireless device, relating to a current cell and possibly to one or more other cells in one or more cell sets. The wireless device and network may take various measurements. In response to the measurements and the configuration information, the wireless device may perform a cell change to one of the other cells.

Cell set based mobility

This disclosure relates to performing implicit radio resource control state transitions in a cellular communication system. A wireless device may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a cellular base station. A data inactivity timer length and a target RRC state for implicit RRC transitions may be determined. A data inactivity timer having the determined data inactivity timer length may be initiated. It may be determined that the data inactivity timer has expired. The wireless device may transition to the target RRC state based at least in part on determining that the data inactivity timer has expired.

Implicit radio resource control state transitions

This disclosure relates to providing early packet delivery to radio link control. A transport block may be received by a wireless device via wireless communication. The transport block may fail a transport block cyclic redundancy check, but a subset of the code blocks of the transport block may pass code block cyclic redundancy checks. Packet data from the subset of the code blocks that pass code block cyclic redundancy checks may be provided to a radio link control layer of the wireless device, based at least in part on the successful code block cyclic redundancy checks for those code blocks.

Early packet delivery to radio link control

Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for performing unicast sidelink access stratum level connection maintenance. A first wireless device and a second wireless device may establish a unicast sidelink wireless connection. One or both of the first wireless device and the second wireless device may perform access stratum level connection maintenance on the unicast sidelink wireless connection. This may include performing any or all of radio link monitoring, radio resource management, or physical layer based link quality detection. The access stratum and the non-access stratum of each device may also communicate with each other regarding either or both of link quality or link status of the unicast sidelink wireless connection.

Unicast sidelink access stratum level connection maintenance

A transmitter (e.g. a packet data convergence protocol, PDCP, in the transmitter), which may be a base station for downlink communications or a user equipment device for uplink communications, may control timing of the delivery of duplicate (same) packets to multiple (e.g. two) wireless links (e.g. radio link control links) for transmission to a receiver, based at least on synchronization information received from the receiver. The duplicate packets may be transmitted over the multiple wireless links to the receiver, which may receive the duplicate packets over the multiple wireless links. The receiver may collect and/or generate synchronization information indicative of the timing or latency between the multiple wireless links, based at least on the respective receive timings of the duplicate packets over the multiple wireless links. The receiver may transmit a report containing the synchronization information to the transmitter periodically and/or in response to a trigger event.

Resolving frequency conflicts among multiple network operators

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to perform methods to implement mechanisms for non-stand-alone unlicensed band cells that support single carrier capable UEs. A UE may camp on a licensed band cell of a RAN and transmit a request to connect. The UE may receive, from the licensed band cell, a connection setup message indicating a switch to an unlicensed band cell of the RAN and receive, from the unlicensed band cell, a reference signal. The UE may transmit to the unlicensed band cell and in response to confirming, based at least in part of the reference signal, radio quality and/or downlink timing of the unlicensed band cell, a connection complete/connection resume message.

The wireless device may determine that link failure for the first wireless link has occurred.
