Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and devices for providing load unit recommendations. An example method includes monitoring queries executed by a database management system including a database object, determining an access frequency of the database object based upon the monitoring, and determining relative access counter information for the database object based on the access frequency. Subsequently, the method includes generating a sorted element based on the relative access counter information, determining threshold values based on threshold information and the sorted element, and determining a load unit for the database object based on the sorted element and the threshold values. The load unit indicates whether to load the whole database object, or only a portion thereof, into a main memory of the DBMS while accessing the database object.

Column loadable and page loadable load unit recommendation system

Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for providing read queries latch-free access to an index page. In an embodiment, a processor receives a request from a read query to access one or more records of an index page. The index page includes an update pointer and a slot array. The processor locates one or more updates prepended to the index page by locating a most recently prepended update indicated by the update pointer. Then, the processor generates a local offset table with entries in the slot array and the located one or more updates. The generated local offset table enables the processor to provide the read query access to the one or more records of the index page.

Index page with latch-free access

Methods, systems, and computer program products for decompressing data are described. An ordinal column number of columnar data to be accessed is obtained, the ordinal column number identifying a location of the columnar data in a corresponding uncompressed row, the columnar data being stored in a first data structure. A breakpoint value in a breakpoint field of the at least partially compressed row is determined, the breakpoint value indicating a location of an end of a common prefix in the corresponding uncompressed row, the common prefix being stored in a second data structure. The ordinal column number of the columnar data to be accessed and a column number indicated by the breakpoint value are compared, the comparison identifying one or more locations of the columnar data to be accessed.

Row, table, and index decompression

Methods, systems, and computer program products for compressing a row are described. A common prefix may be obtained and data in the row matching the common prefix may be identified. A column number of a column corresponding to a breakpoint of the common prefix may be determined and data matching the common prefix may be deleted from the row. An identifier of the common prefix may be inserted into the row and a breakpoint field in the row may be set to the determined column number.

Row, table, and index compression

A system, method, and computer program product for character data compression for reducing data storage requirements in a database system are described. Embodiments include identifying data of a particular character type in a full data page, and identifying usage frequency of each character of the particular character type. Each character is encoded based on the identified usage frequency and stored, with storage requirements for most frequently used characters are reduced.
