Some embodiments provide a copolymer comprising: an acrylate recurring unit and an optionally substituted vinylaryl recurring unit, wherein a portion of at least one of the recurring units comprises a vinyldialkylsiloxy pendant group. The copolymers may be useful as soft acrylic haptics for intraocular lenses. Some embodiments further relate to intraocular lenses having a hydrophobic soft acrylic optic and a silicone haptic, such as a dual optic accommodative lens a having hydrophobic soft acrylic anterior and posterior optic bodies and a silicone haptic. Related copolymeric composite materials as well as additional embodiments of intraocular lenses, are also described herein.

Copolymers for intraocular lens systems

High refractive index and optically clear copoly(carbosilane and siloxane) elastomers and ophthalmic lenses made therefrom are provided. The elastomers are comprised of copolymers having carbosilane repeat units and siloxane repeat units. The copolymers and ophthalmic lenses of the present invention have a high refractive index and excellent folding recoverability.

Ophthalmic lenses, such as intraocular lenses, include crosslinked polymeric materials having a first constituent derived from a first monomeric component selected from the group consisting of 2-phenylpropyl acrylate or methacrylate and mixtures thereof, and a second constituent derived from a second component in an amount effective as a crosslinker in the crosslinked polymeric material. The crosslinked polymeric material has branched chain alkyl groups, in an amount effective to reduce the tackiness of the crosslinked polymeric material relative to a substantially identical crosslinked polymeric material without branched chain alkyl groups.

Ocular implants composed of homopolymers containing stable elasticity inducing crosslinkers which contain rigid chemical groups disposed between at least two polymerizable ethyleneically unsaturated chemical groups are disclosed. These ocular implants are stable, elastic, soft, optically clear, have high refractive index and low-tack surfaces.

High refractive index, optically clear and soft hydrophobic acrylamide copolymers and ophthalmic lenses made therefrom are provided. The copolymers are comprised of a hydrophobic acrylamide monomer of N-Benzyl-N-isopropylacrylamide and at least one monomer of an alkyl acrylate and/or alkyl methacrylate. The copolymers and ophthalmic lenses of the present invention are hydrophobic and soft, with a low glass transition temperature (Tg) and a high refractive index.

Intraocular lenses made from polymeric compositions

Hydrophilic UV light absorbing polymerizing monomers are provided. These monomers are copolymerizable for providing biocompatible hydrogels capable of absorbing at least 90% of the UV light incident to the hydrogels. Such hydrogels are optically transparent, have high refractive indices, and possess long term stability. The hydrogels provided are useful in all applications where hydrogels may be used including intraocular lenses, corneal inlays, corneal onlays, contact lenses and similar applications.

Polymerizable hydrophilic ultraviolet light absorbing monomers

Novel biocompatible, high strength hydrogels useful in intraocular lenses are provided which are optically transparent, have high refractive indices and possess long term stability. The hydrogels are prepared from cross-linked copolymers of N-benzyl-N-methylacrylamide.
