An impeller attach mechanism for a turbocharger including a stud extending from a central bore of a compressor impeller toward a turbine wheel, the stud having a first threaded region and a second threaded region; a shaft coupled to the turbine wheel and extending toward the compressor impeller, the shaft having a leading portion, the leading portion having a threaded interior configured to engage the second threaded region of the stud; and an insert having an internal portion and an external portion, the internal portion having a threaded external surface to engage the compressor impeller, the internal portion having a threaded internal surface to engage the first threaded region of the stud, the external portion configured to surround the leading portion of the shaft.

Impeller attach mechanism

An engine system includes an internal combustion engine, a driven unit, and a torsional coupling between a crankshaft of the engine and a driveshaft of the driven unit. The torsional coupling includes a driven-side disc coupled to the driveshaft, and a flywheel having an engine-side disc coupled to the crankshaft. The engine-side disc has an axial thickness in a discontinuous thickness range from about 0.2 inches to about 0.3 inches, so as to flex the engine-side disc predominantly over the driven-side disc in response to the driveline deflecting loads.

A firing deck () for an engine crankcase includes a firing side surface () and a coolant side surface (). A plurality of cylinder bores () are disposed through the firing deck () from the firing side surface () to the coolant side surface (). The cylinder bores () form a centerline defining an intake side () of the firing deck () and an exhaust side () of the firing deck. A plurality of bosses () through the deck () from the firing side surface () to the coolant side surface () are disposed around each cylinder bore (). A plurality of anti-distortion projections () are disposed on the coolant side surface () of the firing deck () and provide the firing deck with a varied thickness. The anti-distortion projections () are disposed on both the intake side () and the exhaust side () of the firing deck ().
