A human-machine interaction device including a flexible substrate for mounting to a user, a sensing module arranged to sense deformation of the flexible substrate when the flexible substrate is mounted to the user and in response generate a sensed signal, a controller operably connected with the sensing module and arranged to process the sensed signal to obtain a processed signal, and a communication module arranged to communicate the sensed signal or the processed signal to an external electrical device for controlling operation of the external electrical device.

Human-machine interaction device

The present invention provides an integrated sweat sensing system including a multi-layered structure incorporating a flexible circuitry sensing layer with multiple electronic and mechanical components responsible for sensing certain physiological changes of a user and giving feedback signals to the user when a detectable biological, chemical or physiological signal exceeds certain threshold. The system further includes a microfluidic based biosensing platform responsible for sensing changes in sweat component composition including ions, glucose and pH changes, and subsequently trigger feedback signal outputs from the flexible circuitry sensing layer to provide the user with a corresponding change-of-state signal. The present system is bendable and detachably mountable on various skin regions of the user.

Integrated sweat sensing system for health status monitoring and safety warning

A garment to be worn directly on the upper body of a person is formed from fabric and includes a flexible printed circuit board and a number of mounting points for electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes to which ECG electrodes can be releasably attached. For each mounting point, a wire is embedded in the fabric. Each of the wires can electrically connect an ECG electrode attached to the respective mounting point to the flexible printed circuit board. The flexible printed circuit board includes processing circuitry configured for evaluating signals received via the wires from ECG electrodes attached to the mounting points to obtain results and further configured for transmitting the results to an external receiver. A system can include a garment and an external receiver in the form of a mobile device.

Garment for multi-channel ECG monitoring

The present invention provides a stretchable and flexible multi-leads ECG monitoring apparatus having a primary circuitry encased in a thin and flexible polymer patch configured to be worn on a human body. At least four flexible leads are connected to the primary circuitry at a first end and are configured to be connected to ECG electrode patches at a second end. Portable virtual taste generator

An electrotactile apparatus has an electrode-array unit and a driver unit for generating a haptic feedback to a user. The electrode-array unit uses electrodes to electro-stimulate the user's skin with pulsed voltage signals generated by the driver unit, inducing excitation currents flowing in the user to generate the haptic feedback. The driver unit is self-powered or wirelessly powered for supporting untethered electrotactile stimulation to the user. A common counter electrode installed on the driver unit contacts the user's skin and collects the excitation currents returned from the user. Advantageously, the common counter electrode is located on an outer surface of the driver unit and the driver unit is substantially flexible, facilitating the common counter electrode to seamlessly contact the user's skin for achieving a stable electrode-skin interface while positioning the driver unit as a whole on the user's skin to provide untethered virtual touching experience to the user.

Electronic sensing apparatus and a method of producing the electronic sensing apparatus

A multimodal haptic feedback interface installed with a multimode haptic patch stimulates a skin area of a user to provide a haptic feedback including first and second haptic-feedback components to be sensed under static tactile sensing and dynamic tactile sensing, respectively. The patch is mounted with mechanical actuators, electrostimulation electrodes and thermoelectric pellets. The actuators generate a two-dimensional pattern of pressure on the skin area for generating the first haptic-feedback component. The electrostimulation electrodes electrically stimulates the skin area, causing the user to feel a vibration or pressure for generating the second haptic-feedback component. The actuators and electrostimulation electrodes are optimized only for static tactile sensing and dynamic tactile sensing, respectively, reducing an implementation cost while optimized for accuracy in haptic feedback generation. The thermoelectric pellets, realized as Peltier-effect heat pumps, generate a two-dimensional pattern of temperature change on the skin area for providing a thermal feedback to the user.

Multimode haptic patch and multimodal haptic feedback interface

In a handwriting recognition system, a fingertip-motion sensing device has first and second body parts respectively wearable on a distal phalanx and a proximal phalanx of a finger, and a bendable bridge connecting the two body parts. An accelerometer module in the first body part generates acceleration data of the fingertip motion whereas a battery module powering the accelerometer module is in the second body part, avoiding the first body part to be loaded with the battery module so as to reduce hindrance to a user in handwriting. The bridge is wavily shaped, enabling it to be extensible and retractable to avoid spurious interference generation due to unintended movement between the first body part and the distal phalanx. The sensing device wirelessly transmits the acceleration data to a computing device, which analyzes the acceleration data to determine handwritten characters by using a machine-learning classifier, preferably a convolutional neural network.

Fingertip-motion sensing device and handwriting recognition system using the same

The present disclosure provides an ultrathin, flexible, and tattoo-like triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) with a well-designed aesthetic pattern. The tattoo-like TENG as an energy harvester can provide not only an aesthetic pattern, but also various practical applications. With the rising acceptance of people towards the tattoo, the tattoo-like TENG offers an alternative tattoo-like epidermal electronics covering traditional tattoo's advantages and further carries out other potential applications.
