A technique for wireless signal processing performed at a receiver in a wireless network includes receiving, by a wireless receiver, an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal on a shared downlink channel from the wireless network, wherein the OFDM signal includes contribution from a serving cell signal and at least one interfering signal, obtaining an estimate of the serving cell signal, calculating a residual signal by subtracting the estimate of the serving cell signal from the OFDM signal, generating a whitened residual signal by whitening the residual signal, obtaining an estimate of a modulation scheme of the at least one interfering signal by performing a likelihood-based blind classification on the whitened residual signal, and performing further receiver-side processing of the serving cell signal using the estimate of the modulation scheme of the at least one interfering signal.

To process received wireless signals received in a receiver, a noise and interference estimate is generated by subtracting the serving cell component from the received OFDM signal, a normalized noise signal is produced by whitening the noise and interference estimate, interference information is detected from the normalized noise signal associated with corresponding reliability information indicating reliability of the interference information, interference cancellation is performed based on the interference information, and a performance indicator indicative of an accuracy of the interference cancellation is adaptively adjusted using the reliability information.

Channel quality estimation for link adaptation within interference limited systems

A wireless data reception method for receiving orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal includes determining that an interfering signal is present, along with a serving cell signal, in the OFDM signal on the shared downlink channel, determining an estimate of a transmission structure of the received interfering signal, wherein the transmission structure is defined by a plurality of transmission parameters, classifying the estimate of the transmission structure as belonging to a subgroup from a plurality of possible subgroups in a dynamic order, estimating, in a priority order, at least some of the plurality of transmission parameters of the estimate of the transmission structure, and performing further receiver-side processing of the serving cell signal by subtracting contribution of the interfering signal from the OFDM signal based on the estimate of the transmission structure and a result of the estimating step.

Blind identification of transmission structure in a wireless communications system

To process received wireless signals received in a receiver, a noise and interference estimate is generated by subtracting the component from the received OFDM signal, a normalized noise signal by whitening the noise and interference estimate is produced, interference estimation information is computed from the normalized noise signal, a non-linear frequency domain filtering operation is performed on an output of the interference estimation to generate a frequency domain filtered signal, and a non-linear time domain filtering operation is performed on the frequency domain filtered signal to generate an estimate of an unwanted component of the received OFDM signal. The non-linear filtering may be performed using a median filter or an adaptive median filter or an adaptive hybrid median filter.

Interference cancellation using non-linear filtering

A control channel may be used to transmit control information, such as Downlink Control Information (DCI), to a mobile device from a network component, such as a base station or a base node. The mobile device may use a blind decoding scheme to detect DCIs. A DCI may be falsely detected by the mobile device. According to some embodiments, data that has been decoded by a blind decoder, from buffer data for a candidate control channel, is re-encoded. The re-encoded data is compared to buffer data for the control channel. The decoded data is treated as control information dependent on the comparison of the re-encoded data with the buffer data. In some embodiments, comparing the re-encoded data to the buffer data includes generating a metric as a function of a degree of similarity between the re-encoded data and the buffer data. The metric may be compared to a threshold.

Method and apparatus for reducing false detection of control information

Method and devices for use in a wireless device are described herein. A signal is received over a plurality of time segments, the signal over each time segment including a plurality of resource element blocks. For each time segment, at least one resource element block is selected from the plurality of resource element blocks of the time segment based on information determined about the time segment. For each time segment, a power value associated with the at least one resource element block of the time segment is determined. For each time segment, a gain adjustment value to adjust the gain of the time segment or one or more subsequent time segments of the signal is determined based upon the power value associated with the at least one resource element block.

There are disclosed systems and methods that dynamically vary the word length of data being transmitted through a digital interface. In one embodiment, the method comprises: (i) obtaining at least one parameter indicative of a quality of a signal; (ii) if the at least one parameter indicates that the quality of the signal is above a threshold, then transmitting the data as a number of digital words at a first predetermined word length; (ii) if the at least one parameter indicates that the quality of the signal is below the threshold, then transmitting the data as a number of digital words at a second predetermined word length. The second predetermined word length is different from the first predetermined word length.

System and method for transmitting data through a digital interface

A handheld computing device comprises a data processor configured to allocate a set of measurements of a wireless signal amongst partitions of a hierarchical multi-level partition space. Each level has a plurality of the partitions. Each partition has a respective numerical range, and the value of each allocated measurement is within one of the ranges. One of the measurements allocated to one of the partitions has a desired rank. This partition encompasses the range of all the partitions in the immediately lower level. Each partition in the immediately lower level has a desired resolution for the allocated measurements. The data processor sums the number of measurements allocated to each respective partition in the immediately lower level until the desired rank is obtained. The numerical range of the partition in this lower level that is associated with the desired rank comprises an estimate of a characteristic of the wireless signal.

Apparatus, and an associated method, for determining whether to accept as valid a data segment, such as a radio block communicated pursuant to an EDGE communication session. A bit error rate measurer measures the bit error rate of a header part of a received radio block. The measured bit error rate is compared against a selected threshold. Results of the comparison are determinative of whether the radio block is accepted as valid or rejected as corrupted.

Apparatus, and associated method, for selecting whether to reject as invalid a data segment received at a communication station

A method of estimating an electrical characteristic of an electrical signal involves allocating measurements amongst numerically sequential primary partitions. Each measurement is associated with a characteristic of an electrical signal. Each primary partition has a respective primary numerical range, and the value of each measurement is numerically within one of the primary numerical ranges. The measurements associated with one of the primary partitions are then allocated amongst numerically sequential secondary partitions. One of the measurements that is associated with the one primary partition has a desired rank. The secondary partitions are disposed numerically within the primary numerical range of the one primary partition. Each secondary partition has a respective secondary numerical range, and the value of each measurement that is associated with each secondary partition is within one of the secondary numerical ranges. The characteristic is estimated by selecting one of the secondary partitions in accordance with the desired rank.
