The process produces a diesel stream from a biorenewable feedstock by hydrotreating to remove heteroatoms and saturate olefins. The recycle gas is recycled to the hydrotreating reactor without removing hydrogen sulfide, which is needed in the biorenewable feed to keep the hydrotreating catalyst active. A purification unit can be utilized on a purge gas stream to purify the gas and improve hydrogen concentration in the recycle gas when added to the recycle gas.

Process for producing diesel fuel from a biorenewable feed with recycled sulfur

A process for hydrotreating a feed stream comprising a biorenewable feedstock is disclosed. The process comprises hydrotreating the feed stream in the presence of a hydrotreating hydrogen stream and a hydrotreating catalyst to provide a hydrotreated stream. The hydrotreated stream is separated into a hydrotreated liquid stream and a hydrotreated gas stream. The hydrotreated liquid stream is subjected to stripping to provide a stripper off-gas stream. At least a portion of the stripper off-gas stream is contacted with a caustic stream to provide a sulfur-lean gas stream and a sulfur-rich caustic stream. The sulfur-rich caustic stream is further treated to provide a treated gas stream.

Process for hydrotreating a feed stream comprising a biorenewable feedstock with treatment of an off-gas stream

A process and apparatus reboil a propylene splitter bottoms by heat exchange and/or a deethanizer bottoms stream with a compressed propylene splitter overhead stream. Use of single splitter compressor and operation of the propane-propylene splitter column at lower pressure are enabled, whereas conventionally two splitter compressors and higher splitter pressure were necessary to provide a propylene product stream and a propane recycle stream of equivalent quality.

A process for treating effluent streams in a renewable transportation fuel production process is described. One or more of the sour water stream and an acid gas stream are treated directly in thermal oxidation section. The process allows the elimination or size reduction of a sour water stripper unit, waste water treatment plant, and sulfur recovery unit.

Embodiments of apparatuses and methods for reforming of hydrocarbons including recovery of products are provided. In one example, a method comprises separating a reforming-zone effluent into a net gas phase stream and a liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The net gas phase stream is separated for forming an H-rich stream and a first liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The H-rich stream may be contacted with an adsorbent to form an H-ultra rich stream and a gas stream. C/Chydrocarbons are absorbed from the gas stream with the liquid phase hydrocarbon stream. The gas stream may be contacted with an H/hydrocarbon separation membrane to separate the PSA tail gas stream and form an H-rich permeate stream and an Hdepleted non-permeate residue stream.

A stripper off gas stream from a low pressure hydroprocessing unit may be routed to a hydrogen recovery unit to recover hydrogen. The stripper off gas stream may be scrubbed of acid gases and then compressed to hydrogen recovery pressure before it is subjected to hydrogen recovery such as in a pressure swing adsorption unit to recover high purity hydrogen.

Processes for combining the stripping sections for two different reaction zones, such as a diesel hydrotreating zone and a naphtha hydrotreating zone. Preferably, the combustor/expander unit includes a combustion chamber and a power recovery turbine housed within a single casing. An exemplary method includes passing the FCC absorber off-gas to an adsorption zone containing an adsorbent selective for the adsorption of the light cut, the adsorption zone adsorbing at least a portion of the light cut and recovering an adsorption zone effluent stream comprising the heavy cut. The adsorption zone effluent is passed to a demethanizer column to provide an overhead stream comprising hydrogen, nitrogen, methane, ethylene and ethane and a net bottoms stream comprising ethylene, ethane and the heavier hydrocarbons.

Processes and apparatuses for recovery of ethylene from hydrocarbons

A process for recovering heat from the separation of hydrocarbons. The overhead vapor stream from a fractionation column is passed to a two stage heat pump compressor. The first stage of compression is used to reboil the fractionation column. The second stage is compressed and cooled passed to a separation zone. The liquid in the separation zone may be passed back to the fractionation column as secondary reflux, and/or recovered as liquid product. Heat may also be removed from the second stage. A suction drum on the first stage may be used to protect the heat pump compressor from any droplets in the overhead stream.

Processes for separating a feed stream for a combined hydrotreating zone into multiple components. The hydrotreating zone receives at least two streams from the separation, preferably a naphtha stream and a diesel stream. In at least one embodiment, two separation columns are used.

An absorption zone is upstream of an acetylene selective hydrotreating reactor to remove sufficient hydrogen sulfide that can poison the selective hydrotreating catalyst but leave sufficient sulfur in the feed stream to prevent temperature runaway.

A process and apparatus provides for blending a heavy naphtha stream with a diesel stream to increase the yield of diesel. The diesel stream is recovered separately from a kerosene stream to leave the kerosene stream undiminished. The blended diesel provides a valuable composition.
