A fuel pump, for an internal combustion engine, has a housing accommodating a pump and a motor. The motor is arranged to drive the pump so as to pump fuel through the housing. The motor has a wound stator having a plurality of inwardly directed teeth about which a stator winding is wound, and a radially outer surface in contact with an inner surface of the housing. One or more pathways are formed between the inner surface of the housing and the outer surface of the stator, for the flow of fuel there through. Each pathway is formed by an axially extending recess formed in the outer surface of the stator and aligned with a selected tooth of the stator.

Fuel pump

A brushless motor comprises a stator and a rotor rotatably mounted to the stator. The rotor comprises a shaft, a rotor core fixed onto the shaft and magnets fixed to the rotor core. Two covers are fitted to respective ends of the rotor core, with one of the covers covering one end of the rotor core and at least a part of the radially outer peripheral surface of the rotor core, while the other cover at least covering the other end of the rotor core. Preferably, the entire peripheral surface of the rotor core is substantially covered by the two covers and the gap between the two covers is sealed by adhesive.

Brushless motor

A brushless direct current (BLDC) motor has a 3-phase windingand six stator teethwith alternate stator teethbeing wound and the remaining stator teethbeing left unwound. The windinghas three legs, one for each phase and each leg has one coilwound about one of the stator teeth. Each leg has a first end A,B,C, arranged to receive electrical power and a second end X,Y,Z, which is connected to the second end of the other legs to form a star connection. Selected stator teeth have grooves in a face thereof dividing those teeth into a plurality of stator poles. The motor may be used to drive a fuel pump for an internal combustion engine, typically for a vehicle.
