The present invention relates to a tool part comprising a polymer composition. The tool part is suitable to be used in direct contact with water and/or in an environment with relative humidity equal to or higher than 55%. The present invention further relates to a process for the preparation of the tool part. The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the tool part. The present invention further relates to the use of the polymer composition for the preparation of the tool part.

In some embodiments, an injection molding apparatus comprises: a first mold section comprising a first molding surface, wherein the first mold section is configured for attachment to a presser; a second mold section and disposed opposite the first mold section, a thermoelectric device disposed in one of the first and second mold sections and in thermal communication with at least one of the first and second mold surfaces; an electrical control system disposed in electrical communication with the thermoelectric device; the presser in mechanical communication with the first mold section and configured to move at least one of the first and second mold sections toward the other to define a molding space; and an injector for introducing a material to be molded into the molding space; wherein at least one of the first and second mold sections is formed from a ceramic material.

Injection mold with thermoelectric elements

A molded article, comprises: an insert comprising metal, glass, and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing; a composition injection molded in a first shot on at least a portion of the insert forming a part; and a thermoplastic material injection molded on at least a portion of the part in a second shot of a double shot process. A method for making a thin wall component comprise: locating a film () in a mold cavity of a mold, wherein the mold cavity has an initial mold thickness, wherein the film comprises a base layer () and a pattern layer (); injecting a molding material () into the mold cavity such that the molding material contacts the pattern layer, wherein the molding material comprises a polymeric material and a filler; compressing the mold to a final mold thickness that is less than the initial mold thickness, to form a molded product, wherein the pattern layer forms a surface of the molded product; and removing the molded product from the mold. A molded product formed by the method. The method produce a thin walled component without warpage, inner stresses, poor surface quality, or washout defects.

In some embodiments, a tool includes, in an injection molding machine, a movable internal core configured to receive a molded plastic layer thereon, the molded plastic layer having a thickness. The tool also comprises an injection nozzle configured to inject plastic material over the movable internal core to form the molded plastic layer; an ejection plate connected to the movable internal core; and multiple, movable support plates each having a thickness. The multiple, movable support plates are located behind the ejection plate. A movable support plate of the multiple, movable support plates is configured to determine the thickness of the molded plastic layer.

According to an embodiment, disclosed is a method for making a molded article. The method comprises: locating an insert comprising metal, glass, or combination comprising at least one of the foregoing, in a tooling of a double shot injection molding apparatus; and injection molding, in a first shot on at least a portion of the insert to form a part, a composition. The composition comprises: a) an aromatic polycarbonate (PC) and poly(1,4-cyclohexane dimethylene 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxcylate) (PCCD), the weight ratio of PC to PCCD being in the range of 30 to 90 PC to 70 to 10 PCCD, b) glass fiber greater than or equal to 0.75 mm in length and the quantity of glass fiber from 1 to 50 wt. % of the composition, and c) the refractive index of the polycarbonate and PCCD closely matching the refractive index of the glass fiber and being in the range of from 1.540 to 1.570. The method further comprises injection molding a thermoplastic material on at least a portion of the part in a second shot. The thermoplastic material of the second shot adheres to at least a portion of the composition of the first shot.
