According to several aspects, a method for controlling an auxiliary power module (APM) contactor for a vehicle may include logging a plurality of actuations of the APM contactor within a time step. The plurality of actuations includes a plurality of auxiliary battery charging actuations and a plurality of accessory actuations. The method further may include comparing a quantity of the plurality of accessory actuations to a predetermined accessory actuation threshold. The method further may include restricting future actuations of the APM contactor in response to determining that the quantity of the plurality of accessory actuations is greater than or equal to the predetermined accessory actuation threshold.

Auxiliary power module contactor control for a vehicle

A vehicle battery charge management system includes multiple vehicle components each configured to implement a different operational feature of a vehicle, a battery system, and a vehicle control module. The vehicle control module is configured to obtain a state of charge of the battery system, receive a time period specified by user input, the time period indicative of a window of time where the vehicle will be in a parked state, disable at least one of the multiple vehicle components during the time period, and determine an estimated remaining mileage value according to the state of charge of the battery system, a remaining time in the time period, and a predicted energy consumption of each of the multiple vehicle components that are not disabled during the time period, the estimated remaining mileage value indicative of a driving mileage capacity of the vehicle at an expiration of the time period.

Vehicle feature control and battery charge management during parked vehicle time periods

A method for controlling transient operation of a variable flux machine (VFM) includes, during a shunt angle transition, receiving a commanded and measured shunt angle when operating in a predetermined operating region, e.g., maximum torque per ampere or field weakening. The method includes calculating d-axis and q-axis delta current terms (ΔIand ΔI) required to maintain an output torque level of the VFM through a duration of the shunt angle transition, then applying the required ΔIand ΔIterms as feed-forward terms to adjust a d-axis current (I) term and a q-axis current (I) term from a respective lookup table. In this manner the controller maintains the output torque level of the VFM during the shunt angle transition. An electric powertrain includes the VFM, a TPIM, and the controller. A PM machine may be controlled by substituting temperature for shunt angle.

Open-loop control for transient operation of a rotary electric machine

A method for controlling transient operation of a rotary electric machine in an electric powertrain or other electrical system includes, during a shunt angle transition occurring during a maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control region, determining an estimated output torque of the electric machine via a torque estimation block using d-axis and q-axis current commands and an additional value, i.e., an actual shunt angle or a machine temperature. The method includes subtracting the estimated output torque from a commanded output torque to derive an adjusted commanded torque value or torque error, and calculating, from the torque error, a delta d-axis current command and a delta q-axis current command. The method includes adjusting d-axis and q-axis current commands using the delta commands to produce adjusted d-axis and q-axis current commands, which are then used as closed-loop feedback control terms by the torque estimation block.

Closed-loop control for transient operation of variable flux and permanent magnet electric machines

Methods may involve determining a minimum voltage for a voltage command. A maximum voltage for the voltage command may be determined. A first representation of a first performance curve corresponding to the minimum voltage may be determined. A second representation of a second performance curve corresponding to the maximum voltage may be determined. An operating point to be achieved through the voltage command may be obtained. An evaluation may be made of whether the operating point lies between the first and second representations. When the operating point lies between the first and second representations, an interpolation may be conducted between the first and second representations to determine a magnitude of the voltage command.

Methods for determining a voltage command

An electric power system for supplying power to a permanent magnet electric machine includes a high-voltage DC power source that is disposed to supply electric power to a front-end converter connected via a high-voltage DC bus to an electric inverter that is connected to the electric machine. A method for operating a control system includes monitoring the electric machine. Upon detecting a fault associated with the electric machine, a controller commands operation of the front-end converter to generate a voltage level on the high-voltage DC bus that is a maximum setpoint voltage level and monitors back-emf voltage level from the electric machine. The inverter is controlled to a three-phase open state when the back-emf voltage level is less than the maximum setpoint voltage level. The inverter is controlled to a three-phase short state when the back-emf voltage level is greater than the maximum setpoint voltage level.

Method and apparatus for controlling an electric machine

An electric power system including a front-end converter that is supplied electric power from a high-voltage DC power source, and an associated motor control system is described. A control method includes monitoring the electric machine and determining a reference current based upon the electric power supplied from the high-voltage DC power source. A motor current is determined based upon the monitoring of the electric machine, and a feed-forward current is determined based upon the motor current and the monitoring of the electric machine. A first duty cycle is determined based upon the reference current, the motor current and the feed-forward current, and a feed-forward duty cycle is determined based upon the monitoring of the electric machine. A second duty cycle is determined based upon the feed-forward duty cycle and the first duty cycle, and the front-end converter is controlled based upon the second duty cycle.

Electric power system for controlling an electric machine

An electric machine assembly includes an electric machine, an inverter configured to provide pulse-width modulation characterized by a switching frequency and a controller. The controller has a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which is recorded instructions for executing a method of controlling the switching frequency to minimize a beat frequency phenomenon. Execution of the instructions by the processor causes the controller to obtain a first function (G) and a second function (G) based at least partially on the original pulse ratio (PR). The original pulse ratio (PR) is a ratio of the switching frequency and a predefined fundamental frequency. If each of a plurality of conditions are met, a new pulse ratio (PR) is determined based at least partially on the original pulse ratio (PR), the first function (G) and the second function (G).
