An ophthalmic lens includes an optic comprising an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and an optical axis. At least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface has a surface profile including a base curvature and a plurality of morphed sinusoidal phase shift structures. The base curvature may correspond to a base optical power of the ophthalmic lens, and the morphed sinusoidal phase shift structures may be configured to extend depth of focus of the ophthalmic lens at intermediate or near viewing distances.

An ophthalmic lens includes an optic having a first surface and a second surface disposed about an optical axis. At least one of the first surface and the second surface includes a surface profile having a base curvature and a plurality of zones. The base curvature corresponds to a base optical power. The plurality of zones is adapted to produce a plurality of curves corresponding to light energy distribution along the optical axis. The surface profile includes a plurality of adjustments providing an extended depth-of-focus, the plurality of adjustments being adapted to extend each one of the plurality of curves towards another of the plurality of curves. The plurality of adjustments may include at least one spherical aberration. The plurality of adjustments may include at least one longitudinal chromatic aberration. The plurality of adjustments may include at least one phase shift change.

Multifocal ophthalmic lens with extended depth-of-focus

An ophthalmic lens includes an optic with a first surface, a second surface, and a phase-shift structure having one or more phase-shift regions. A method for fabricating an ophthalmic lens includes designing an optic with a first surface, a second surface, and a phase-shift structure having one or more phase-shift regions. The phase-shift regions may be adapted to generate respective chromatic focal shifts such that an incident radiation in a respective wavelength range at least partially converges towards a respective selected wavelength. The method includes determining a chromatic aberration target for the optic and determining the quantity of the phase-shift regions meeting the chromatic aberration target. The optic is formed with the phase-shift regions having respective optimal heights obtained based in part on an overall interaction effect. The phase-shift structure may be adapted to increase a depth-of-focus of the optic in the direction of extension.

Ophthalmic lens with phase-shift structure and method

A method and system provide an ophthalmic device. The ophthalmic device includes an ophthalmic lens having anterior surface, a posterior surface and at least one diffractive structure including a plurality of zones. The at least one diffractive structure is for at least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface. Each zone includes at least one echelette having a least one step height. The step height(s) are individually optimized for each zone. To compensate chromatic aberration of eye from distance to a range of vision, a greater than 2π phase step height may be employed and the step height(s) folded by a phase, which is an integer multiple of two multiplied by π. Hence chromatic aberration of eye may be compensated to improve vision from distance to near.

The ophthalmic device includes an ophthalmic lens having an anterior surface, a posterior surface, at least one diffractive structure and at least one base curvature. The at least one diffractive structure for provides a first spherical aberration for a first focus corresponding to at least a first focal length. The at least one base curvature provides a second spherical aberration for at least a second focus corresponding to at least a second focal length. The first spherical aberration and the second spherical aberration are provided such that the first focus has a first focus spherical aberration and the second focus has a second focus spherical aberration. The first focus spherical aberration is opposite in sign to the second focus spherical aberration.

Multifocal lens having reduced visual disturbances

An ophthalmic lens includes an optic comprising an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and an optical axis. At least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface has a surface profile including a base curvature, a refractive region having the base curvature, and a diffractive region comprising a diffractive profile including a plurality of diffractive steps. At least a portion of the diffractive profile constitutes a combination of a base diffractive profile defining multiple foci for the ophthalmic lens and an achromatizing structure that reduces longitudinal chromatic aberrations.

Multifocal ophthalmic lens having chromatic aberration correction

A method and system provide a multifocal ophthalmic device. The ophthalmic lens has an anterior surface, a posterior surface and at least one diffractive structure including a plurality of echelettes. The echelettes have at least one step height of at least one wavelength and not more than two wavelengths in optical path length. In certain embodiments, an ophthalmic lens includes an optic having an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and an optical axis. At least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface includes a first zone extending from the optical axis to a first radial boundary and a second zone extending from the first radial boundary to the edge of the optic. The first zone includes an inner region and an outer region separated by a phase shift feature, the phase shift comprising a ridge extending outwardly from the inner region and the outer region.

Ophthalmic lens having an extended depth of focus

A multifocal ophthalmic lens includes an ophthalmic lens and a diffractive element. The ophthalmic lens has a base curvature corresponding to a base power. The diffractive element produces constructive interference in at least four consecutive diffractive orders corresponding a range of vision between near and distance vision. The constructive interference produces a near focus, a distance focus corresponding to the base power of the ophthalmic lens, and an intermediate focus between the near focus and the distance focus.

Multifocal diffractive ophthalmic lens

A multifocal ophthalmic lens includes an ophthalmic lens and a diffractive element. The ophthalmic lens has a base curvature corresponding to a base power. The diffractive element produces constructive interference in at least four consecutive diffractive orders corresponding a range of vision between near and distance vision. The constructive interference produces a near focus, a distance focus corresponding to the base power of the ophthalmic lens, and an intermediate focus between the near focus and the distance focus. A diffraction efficiency of at least one of the diffractive orders is suppressed to less than ten percent.
