The present application relates to rib structure on cylinder block. A cylinder block having a top surface, an inner bottom surface, a cylinder opening on the top surface, and a head boss positioned on the top surface, centered on a first axis, and configured to engage with a fastener at an initial position, which defines a first depth. The cylinder block includes a first main boss positioned on the inner bottom surface, centered on a second axis, and configured to engage with a first main fastener at a first end position, which defines a second depth. The cylinder block includes a second main boss positioned on the inner bottom surface and configured to engage with a second main fastener at a second end position, which defines a third depth. The cylinder block includes a first rib path extending from the first depth to the second depth and a second rib path extending from the first depth to the third depth.

Rib structure on cylinder block

The application relates to cylinder head water jacket design. A water jacket for a cylinder head of an engine system includes a water jacket lower portion including a plurality of water jacket lower portion coolant inlets and a plurality of water jacket lower portion coolant paths. The water jacket lower portion is in coolant receiving communication with the water jacket lower portion coolant inlets. The water jacket further includes a water jacket upper portion connected to and in coolant receiving communication with the water jacket lower portion. The water jacket upper portion includes a first coolant rail, a second coolant rail, and a water jacket upper portion coolant outlet. A first one of the plurality of water jacket lower portion coolant paths surrounds at least a portion of an exhaust port of the cylinder head. A second one of the plurality of water jacket lower portion coolant paths is positioned between two intake ports of the cylinder head.

Cylinder head water jacket design

An engine block includes one or more cylinder bores wherein each cylinder bore is surrounded by a cylinder bore wall. The cylinder bore wall includes a liner stop mechanism to locate a liner in the cylinder bore. The cylinder bore includes a mid-portion that spans between an upper end and a lower end, wherein the liner stop mechanism can be located near the upper end, near the lower end, or the mid-portion. The engine block has an outer cylinder block wall that is exterior to the cylinder bore wall. The outer cylinder block wall includes a first rib positioned above the liner stop mechanism and a second rib positioned below the liner stop mechanism relative to a cylindrical axis of the cylinder bore. The first and second ribs straddle the liner stop mechanism to reduce rotation and buckling of the liner during operation of the engine.

Unique block rib geometry for reducing liner distortion

An engine block includes one or more cylinder bores at least partially surrounded by a cylinder bore wall. The cylinder bore wall includes a liner stop mechanism to support a liner in the cylinder bore. The engine block has an outer cylinder block wall that is exterior to the cylinder bore wall. The outer cylinder block wall includes at least one rib located relative to the liner stop mechanism to reduce rotation and buckling of the liner during operation of the engine.
