A process for preparing oxo-hexameric zirconium-octaamino acid, such as glycine, salt comprising: mixing zirconium (Zr):amino acid:and mineral acid, in a molar ratio of 1:about 1 to about 15:about 1.5 to about 3 to form a mixture; optionally, filtering the mixture; and optionally, drying the mixture. An oxo-hexameric zirconium-octaamino acid salt of the molecular formula: oxo-[ZrAminoAcid].Xy.nHO, wherein Zr is zirconium, X is an anion of a mineral acid, and n and y are numerical values from 0 to 20. A method of making an antiperspirant active zirconium-aluminum-amino acid compound comprising mixing an oxo-hexameric zirconium-octaamino acid salt with aluminum chlorohydrex and/or aluminum chloride, and drying the mixture. The smallest oxo-hexameric zirconium-octaamino acid salt of this invention provides stability, efficacy, and shelf life of zirconium-amino acid species for formulations in antiperspirant and/or deodorant compositions.

Oxo-hexameric zirconium-octaamino acid antiperspirant salts

A zirconium-free aluminum salt which: (a) has an aluminum to chloride molar ratio in the range of 0.5-2.5:1; (b) comprises a nitrogen containing buffering material in an amount such that the ratio of nitrogen containing material to aluminum is the range of 0.05-0.26:1, and which nitrogen containing material is selected from the group consisting of a nitrogen containing buffering material of formula where n is a number in the range of 1-20, and each of R, R, and Ris independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl and ethyl; and (c) the salt has a pH in the range of 2-4 at a concentration of 15%; wherein the salt is free of any other halide scavenging material and has a value of at least 0.50 for the ratio calculated as:

High efficacy, low irritation aluminum salts and related products

The invention is a clear, elastomer-free, gel composition comprising: (a) 14&#x2013;30 weight % of an antiperspirant active having a low metal to chloride ratio; (b) 7&#x2013;23.3 weight % of one or more cyclomethicones having a flash point of 100 degrees C. or less; (c) 0.6&#x2013;0.9 weight % of a silicone surfactant having an HLB value&#x2266;8; (d) 30&#x2013;70 weight % water; (e) 3.85&#x2013;10 weight % of a water soluble glycol or polyglycol and (f) 0.1&#x2013;3.0 weight % of a non-siliconized organic fragrance solubilizer; wherein the composition is a gel having a viscosity greater than 150,000 centipoise and a ratio of oil phase to water phase in the range of 10:90 to 24:76.

High efficacy gel with low glycol content

A low residue antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition in the form of an anhydrous, surfactant-free and antiseptic alcohol-free suspension exhibiting a syneresis of less than 8% which is made by combining selected amounts of: (a) a cyclomethicone (and) dimethicone crosspolymer made with an &#x2261;Si&#x2014;H containing polysiloxane and an alpha, omega-diene of formula CH&#x2550;CH(CH)CH&#x2550;CHwhich crosspolymer has a viscosity in the range of 50,000&#x2013;3,000,000 centipoise, preferably with a nonvolatiles content of 10&#x2013;14% in cyclomethicone; (b) polyethylene beads having a density in the range of 0.91&#x2013;0.98 grams/cmand a particle size in the range of 5&#x2013;40 microns; (c) a volatile silicone; (d) an emollient (or a mixture of two or more emollients) which may include a non-volatile silicone and an additional amount of a volatile silicone; and (e) an effective amount of an antiperspirant active material in an amount sufficient to have an antiperspirant and/or a deodorant effect.

Effective soft solid personal care product

A low residue antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition in the form of an anhydrous, surfactant-free and antiseptic alcohol-free suspension exhibiting a syneresis of less than 8% is disclosed which comprises: (a) a dimethicone/vinyldimethicone crosspolymer composition made by reacting a polymethylhydrogensiloxane with an alpha, omega-divinylpolydimethyl siloxane for which the dimethicone/vinyldimethicone crosspolymer composition is used at a concentration of 0.5&#x2013;10% in cyclomethicone; (b) polyethylene beads having a density in the range of 0.91&#x2013;0.98 grams/cmand a particle size in the range of 5&#x2013;40 microns, wherein the polyethylene beads are used in an amount of at least 2% by weight based on the total weight of the composition; (c) a volatile silicone; (d) an emollient or mixture of two or more emollients; and (e) an effective amount of an antiperspirant active material.

This invention comprises low residue cosmetic compositions (especially underarm products) which are made by combining an active ingredient; a silicone gel material itself comprising an elastomer composition; and at least one selected surfactant having an HLB value in the range of 8-16. The compositions of this invention exhibit reduced or eliminated film formation when applied to the skin and increased availABILity of the active ingredient.

Low Residue cosmetic composition

A two-phase roll-on antiperspirant and/or deodorant is described which comprises: (a) a clear, translucent or opaque non-polar phase having a viscosity in the range of 20 cps-9,000 made by combining: a cross-linked or partially cross-linked non-emulsifying siloxane elastomer; 0.1-70 weight % of one or more low viscosity, lipophilic emollients; (b) a clear, translucent or opaque polar phase have a viscosity in the range of 20-9,000 cps made by combining: one or more members selected from the group consisting of water, glycols and polyhydric alcohols; and an antiperspirant active salt which is soluble or suspendible in the polar phase; wherein the polar phase comprises (i) a sufficient amount of water, glycols or polyhydric alcohols to dissolve or suspend the antiperspirant active, and (ii) optionally may comprise up to 30 weight % water; up to 16.00 weight % of ethyl alcohol; up to 16 weight % isopropyl alcohol; or mixtures of the foregoing; (iii) 0.1-2.5 weight % of a water soluble cationic derivative selected from the group consisting of hydroxyethyl cellulose and its copolymers provided that the viscosity of the polar phase does not exceed 9,000 cps.

Two-phase roll-on cosmetic product

A clear antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition is disclosed in the form of an emulsion having a refractive index less than 1.42 and comprising: (a) 25-70% of an external phase comprising: (i) 0.1-10%, on an actives basis, of at least one elastomer which is a dimethicone/vinyldimethicone crosspolymer composition made by reacting a polymethylhydrogensiloxane with an alpha, omega-divinylpolydimethyl siloxane for which the dimethicone/vinyl-dimethicone crosspolymer composition is used at a concentration of 4-10% in cyclomethicone, has a refractive index in the range of 1.392-1.402 at 25 degrees C and a viscosity in the range of 0.013-1&times;10 Pascal seconds; (ii) 0.1-5% of a silicone copolyol having an HLB value &lE;8; (iii) 0.1-68% of a volatile silicone selected in an amount to complete the external phase; (iv) 0-10% of a cosurfactant or emulsifier having an HLB value in the range of 1-15; (v) 0-5% of a non-volatile silicone; and (b) 30-75% of an internal phase which is made with: (i) 7-25% (on an anhydrous actives basis (excluding the waters of hydration) of an antiperspirant active; (ii) 0-10% ethanol; (iii) additional water as required to adjust the refractive index; (iv) 0-5% of an antimicrobial agent; and (v) 0-5% of an ionizable salt; wherein the conductance of a water droplet applied to the surface of a thin film of the antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition is at least 250 micro Siemens/cm/ml as measured by a fixed geometry test at a loading of at least 7% by weight level of antiperspirant active.

High oil clear emulsion with elastomer

A clear antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition is disclosed in the form of an emulsion having a refractive index less than 1.42 and comprising: (a) 25-70% of an external phase comprising: (i) 0.1-10%, on an actives basis, of at least one elastomer which is a cyclomethicone (and) dimethicone crosspolymer made with an &equiv;Si&mdash;H containing polysiloxane and an alpha, omega-diene of formula CH &boxH;CH(CH ) CH&boxH;CH , where x&equals;1-20, to form a gel by crosslinking and addition of &equiv;Si&mdash;H across double bonds in the alpha, omega diene, which crosspolymer has a viscosity in the range of 50,000-3,000,000 centipoise; (ii) 0.1-5% of a silicone copolyol having an HLB value &lE;8; (iii) 0.1-68% of a volatile silicone selected in an amount to complete the external phase; (iv) 0-10% of a cosurfactant or emulsifier having an HLB value in the range of 1-15; (v) 0-5% of a non-volatile silicone; and (b) 30-75% of an internal phase which is made with: (i) 7-25% (on an anhydrous actives basis (excluding the waters of hydration) of an antiperspirant active; (ii) 0-10% ethanol; (iii) additional water as required to adjust the refractive index; (iv) 0-5% of an antimicrobial agent; and (v) 0-5% of an ionizable salt; wherein the conductance of a water droplet applied to the surface of a thin film of the antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition is at least 250 micro Siemens/cm/ml as measured by a fixed geometry test at a loading of at least 7% by weight level of antiperspirant active.

High oil clear emulsion with diene elastomer

This invention comprises aluminum zirconium salts which have a metal to chloride molar ratio in the range of 0.9-1.2:1 and a glycine:zirconium molar ratio greater than 1.3:1 and antiperspirant compositions made with such salts.

Antiperspirant salts for enhanced cosmetic products

A method for forming micronized antiperspirant salts is disclosed wherein the method comprises the steps of: (1) forming an aqueous salt solution of a parent salt wherein the solution has a glycol content of less than 5 weight %; (2) pouring the salt solution onto a bounded flat surface; (3) evaporating the solvent from the salt solution so as to form a glass; (4) breaking up the glass using one or more steps to form particles having an average size in the range of 0.5-2.00 cm ; (5) mixing the particles from step (4) with a non-aqueous liquid vehicle in which the salt is not appreciably soluble and subjecting the mixture to an intermediate grinding process to form a suspension with particles having an average size of less than 200 microns; and (6) grinding the mixture from step (5) at a temperature in the range of 20-70 degrees C. without added water or external heating being required so that the particles in the suspension have an average particle size of less than or equal to 20 microns.

Antiperspirant actives from a glass form and products made therewith

The present invention comprises stabilizing aqueous solutions of aluminum zirconium based salts with a water soluble amino acid, especially glycine, wherein the Zr:glycine weight ratios used to form solutions of the active itself or used to form cosmetic compositions made according to this invention are in the range from 1:1.2 to 1:5, particularly 1:2 to 1:4, and more particularly in the range of 1:2 to 1:3 on a weight:weight basis. By reducing the polymerization of small zirconium species with an elevated amount of amino acid(s), the efficacy of the antiperspirant salt is maintained.
