A food refrigeration appliance having a refrigerated cabinet, a thaw/chill compartment, and a controller for selectively operating the thaw/chill compartment. The compartment is located within the refrigerated cabinet and is heated or cooled by a magneto-caloric element present within the compartment. The controller is electrically coupled to the magneto-caloric element for selective operation.

An icemaking compartment is provided in the refrigerator compartment of a bottom mount refrigerator. An icemaker is within the icemaking compartment. A cold air duct supplies cold air from the freezer compartment to the icemaker. The cold air duct is formed in the rear wall of the refrigerator. A fan controls the flow of air through the cold air duct. A return air duct is provided to direct a portion of the air from the icemaker back to the freezer compartment. An air vent in the icemaker directs another portion of air into the refrigerator compartment.

A side-by-side refrigerator includes fresh food and freezer compartments each having upper and lower sections which vary in width and volume. The fresh food and freezer compartments are separated by a dividing wall or mullion having first and second upright portions interconnected by a laterally offset section. Fresh food and freezer doors are pivotally mounted about respective vertical axes for sealing the fresh food and freezer compartments. Each of the fresh food and freezer doors has a substantially uniform width. With this construction, the varying width compartments are sealed by substantially uniform width fresh food and freezer doors.

A quick-cooling device for a refrigerator includes top, bottom and opposing side walls that collectively define an air intake/delivery housing. A plurality of air discharge nozzles are arranged about at least one wall of the housing. A blower fan is mounted to the housing for drawing an airflow from the refrigerator into the housing and thereafter expelling the airflow from the housing through the air discharge nozzles. The air discharge nozzles can be constituted by slotted or circular openings arranged in staggered rows and sized to match a particular application.

A device for rapidly chilling containers in a refrigerator includes a base portion, an outer body portion and a carriage. The outer body portion includes an outer shell defining a central cavity. The carriage is rotatably supported in the central cavity and spaced from the outer shell so as to define an air channel. The carriage includes a support wall that defines an article receptacle. The support wall includes a plurality of openings that open to the air channel. A fan is provided to establish a cooling airflow that is directed through the air channel into the carriage. A motor is employed to selectively rotate the carriage. A plurality of rollers, at least one of which is driven by the motor, support and drive the carriage to rotate through the cooling airflow to rapidly lower the container temperature.

An improved icemaker is provided for a refrigerator. The improvements include tilting the ice mold to assure that the ice cavity nearest the thermostat is filled with water; controlling air flow to the mold to promote rapid freezing of water in the mold cavities; raising the perimeter walls of the mold to minimize water spillage; and providing hooks on the mold for routing electrical wires.

A food storage system mounted in a fresh food compartment of a refrigerator includes an enclosure, as well as a food receptacle slidably positioned in the enclosure. A thermoelectric (TE) device is employed to establish a flow of temperature controlled air for establishing a desired temperature in the food receptacle. In accordance with one embodiment, the thermoelectric device is positioned in a chamber defined behind the food receptacle. In another embodiment, the thermoelectric device comprises a module located atop the enclosure.
