A head-mounted device may have a head-mounted housing. The head-mounted housing may have rear-facing displays that display images for a user. The images are viewable from eye boxes while the head-mounted device is being worn by the user. An electrically adjustable face cushion may be provided between the head-mounted housing and the user's face. The electrically adjustable face cushion may have adjustable elements such as adjustable inflation air bags. Airflow control systems formed from electrically adjustable airflow valves, check valves, and air pumps may be used in controlling inflation of the adjustable inflation air bags in responses to changes in operating mode of the head-mounted device and/or in response to sensor data or other input. The sensor data may include strain gauge measurements of facial pressure on the air bags.

Systems with adjustable cushions

In some examples, a system can include an electronic device and a cooling system that transfers heat among other components of the system. The cooling system can include a pipe that contains a fluid, for example. In some examples, the cooling system can further include a magnetic piston, one or more electromagnetic coils, and a power supply. The electromagnetic coils and power supply can generate a magnetic field that moves the piston to cause the fluid to circulate in the fluid pipe. In some examples, the cooling system can further include a magnet and one or more pairs of electrodes coupled to a power supply. The magnet, electrodes, and power supply can generate a Lorentz force that causes a conductive fluid to circulate in the fluid pipe.

Embodiments are disclosed for a gyroscopic precession engine for wearable devices. In an embodiment, a wearable device comprises: a support structure including at least one attachment mechanism for attaching the support structure to a human body part; at least one gyroscopic precession engine coupled to the support structure, the gyroscopic precession engine, comprising: a first motor configured to rotate a wheel mount at a first angular velocity; at least one wheel rotatably coupled to the wheel mount and configured to spin at a second angular velocity different than the first angular velocity; a second motor configured to spin the wheel at the second angular velocity; and at least one motor controller coupled to the first motor and the second motor, the at least one motor controller configured to rotate the wheel mount at the first angular velocity and spin the wheel at the second angular velocity, thereby producing a torque in a desired direction.

Gyroscopic precession engine for wearable devices

A modular robot mechanism utilizing fixed drives, power sources, power delivery cables and electrical components for 4 or more axes in a protective enclosure while making it possible to provide spatial positioning and tilting degrees of freedom to an end effector suitable for using in a consumer product. Furthermore a robotic head mechanism is disclosed that creates additional degrees of freedom or states by combination of existing axes with spring loaded lock mechanisms eliminating need for conventional electrically actuated solenoid or pneumatic grippers making it possible for use as a home appliance. A method to control the robot mechanism and additional axis utilizing a matrix to decouple the input position to the remote actuator and Cartesian motion produced at the end effector.
