A method of and a computing device for evaluating lighting quality in a geographic region having a plurality of luminaires arranged therein and a road lighting system are disclosed. Each luminaire in the geographic region comprises a tilt sensor arranged for obtaining a tilt angle of the luminaire. The method is performed by a computing device and comprising the steps of: receiving tilt angles of the plurality of luminaires obtained by tilt sensors of the plurality of luminaires, and evaluating lighting quality in the geographic region with reference to a number of parameters derived from the received tilt angles of the plurality of luminaires.

Method of evaluating lighting quality in a geographic region having a plurality of luminaires arranged therein and a road lighting system

The invention discloses an outdoor luminaire. The outdoor luminaire comprises a light module comprising at least one LED unit; wherein said light module is configured such that the light emitted by the light module has a first luminous intensity value no less than 10 cd/klm at a first angle (&#x3b3;i), which is a vertical angle of 90 degrees above a direction pointing directly downward from the luminaire. In this way, the luminous intensity of the outdoor luminaire at a vertical angle of 90 degrees is guaranteed to be no less than 10 cd/klm Since the end user sees the light emitted at a vertical angle of 90 degrees no matter how far away he is from the outdoor luminaire, the end user always perceives a certain level of brightness. Such 'certain level of brightness' is helpful in increasing the adaptation level of the end user, and can effectively reduce the end user's perception of glare.

Outdoor luminaire

There is provided a lighting apparatus and a method for reducing discomfort glare. The method comprises a step of providing a first portion of light radiation in a first incident angle range; and another step of providing a second portion of light radiation in a second incident angle range consecutive to the first incident angle range. The first incident angle range is greater than the second incident angle range viewed from a vertically downward direction of a light source emitting the light radiation, and the correlated color temperature of the first portion of light radiation is lower than that of the second portion of light radiation.

To improve the illumination efficiency of hand-held illumination devices, this invention proposes a new illumination device having the 'rolling' function, which is capable of illuminating the target area on which a user is currently focusing and rolling the illuminated area as the user is reading forward or backward. The illumination device comprises two pluralities of lighting elements, an illuminating body and a controller. The controller can control one plurality of lighting elements to emit light to illuminate a part of the illuminating body, which can further deflect the light to a part of the surface of the target.

The invention discloses a lighting device for a road lighting luminaire and a lighting luminaire comprising the lighting device. The lighting device comprises a reflector (), which comprises a reflecting surface () formed by revolving a parabolic curve around a first axis (y) through a predetermined angle, wherein said parabolic curve has an aperture at its vertex, said first axis axis being co-planar with said parabolic curve, and extending substantially perpendicularly to the axis (x) of symmetry of said parabolic curve, and being located at or outside of said aperture of said parabolic curve. The lighting device further comprises a LED light source (), which is disposed at an entry to said reflecting surface, with said entry corresponding to said aperture of said parabolic curve. In this way, light distribution can be controlled in the same way in any plane containing the first axis within the range of the predetermined angle. Moreover, the light distribution in any plane containing the first axis (y) can be controlled as desired by designing the parabolic curve accordingly. Thus, the lighting device can effectively reduce or eliminate the negative glaring effect and/or achieve satisfying lamination uniformity on the road surface.

According to the invention, there is provided an illumination system, comprising: a plurality of lighting segments; a detecting subsystem configured to detect an illumination intensity and/or color of lights emitted from each lighting segment; a controller configured to receive the detecting subsystem's output signals representing illumination intensity and/or color of lights emitted from each lighting segment and to generate sets of driving signals to respectively adjust the driving currents of each lighting segment in response to the output signals, so as to adjust the illumination intensity and/or color of the lights emitted from each lighting segment in accordance with a predetermined illumination setting, wherein each set of driving signals has a unique period feature which is distinguished from that of other sets of driving signals corresponding to other lighting segments.
