A bearing outer face construction system includes a bearing having a bearing outer race. The bearing outer race includes an outer race surface. At least one circumferential groove is recessed into the bearing outer race. An expanding member is received in the at least one circumferential groove. A housing receives the bearing having a gap between a housing inner face and the bearing outer race. The expanding member expands to radially extend across the gap into direct contact with the housing inner face to mitigate against motion between the bearing and the housing inner face.

An electric motor is provided for use in an electromechanical transmission that utilizes automatic transmission fluid. The electric motor includes a stator and a rotor. The rotor includes a plurality of permanent magnets can include magnetic particles coated with hydrogen impermeable material. According to an alternative embodiment, the entire permanent magnet or the rotor itself can be coated with hydrogen impermeable material. According to a further alternative embodiment, the permanent magnet particles can be secured by a binder that includes a hydrogen storage compound that prevents hydrogen from affecting magnetic properties of the permanent magnet.

Method for mitigating thermal aging of permanent magnets in organic liquid

The present invention provides a fluid displacing transmission filler having a blow molded, foam filled body. The body or shell of the filler is blow molded in a mold which shapes it to conform to internal surfaces and other features, such as gears and shafts, of a transmission. Then, the blow molded filler body is filled with closed cell foam. The resulting transmission filler is lightweight, achieves a maximum volume for an available space within a transmission and is essentially impervious to failure and filling with fluid because the closed cell foam does not significantly absorb transmission fluid.
