Methods for the rapid detection of the presence or absence of Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) in a biological or non-biological sample are described. The methods can include performing an amplifying step, a hybridizing step, and a detecting step. Furthermore, primers, probes targeting the genes for HSV-1 viral DNA polymerase B (HSV-1 Pol) and HSV-1 thymidine kinase C (HSV-1 TK), and also target the genes for HSV-2 thymidine kinase C (HSV-2 TK) and HSV-2 glycoprotein B (HSV-2 gB), along with kits are provided that are designed for the detection of HSV-1 and/or HSV-2.

Compositions and methods for detection of herpes simplex virus 1 and 2

A method of simultaneously amplifying genotypes 1, 2, 3 and/or 4 of HEV is disclosed comprising amplifying the genotypes 1, 2, 3 and/or 4 of HEV with one single none-degenerate forward primer partially overlapping the 5'UTR region of HEV and at least one reverse primer. Also disclosed are related methods comprising a probe, and kits for the detection of genotypes 1, 2, 3 and/or 4 of HEV.

HEV Assay

Methods for the measuring cell-free nucleic acids and/or virus particles from dried blood spots are described. The methods can include the steps of rehydrating a dried blood sample, optionally fixing cells present in the rehydrated dried blood sample, eluting cell-free virus particles from the rehydrated dried blood sample, separating the cell-free viruses from any cell debris that may be present in the rehydrated dried blood sample by way of a filter, and measuring cell-free virus particles by a viral particle quantification technique.
