A single piece electrical connector having a housing with a mating face, a wire receiving face, and housing side walls. Terminal receiving cavities extend from the mating face to the wire receiving face. The terminal receiving cavities have cavity side walls. Resilient securing arms are provided in the terminal receiving cavities. The resilient securing arms have fixed portions which extend from and are integrally attached to base members which extend from and are integrally attached to the cavity side walls of the terminal receiving cavities. The resilient securing arms are made from the same material and in the same manufacturing process that forms the housing. The fixed ends are spaced from the cavity side walls by gaps. The gaps between the resilient securing arms and the cavity side walls facilitate the cleaning or removal of excess material formed during the manufacturing process of the electrical connector.

An electrical connector includes a shell and a coupling ring. The shell has contact receiving passages and an outer wall with a coupling ring retaining projection. The coupling ring is integrally mounted on the shell. The coupling ring is movable between a first position and a second position. A spring is integrally positioned on the coupling ring. The spring is provided in a stressed position when the coupling ring is moved to the second position. Openings are provided in the coupling ring; the openings being positioned proximate the spring. The opening are dimensioned to allow the removal of residual material produced during the manufacture of the electrical connector.

An electrical connector matable to and unmatable from a separable mating electrical connector includes a housing having a terminal channel and a secondary channel. The electrical connector also includes a female terminal received in the terminal channel. The female terminal is matable with and unmatable from a mating male terminal of the mating electrical connector. An arc suppression element is received in the secondary channel. The arc suppression element configured to electrically couple between the female terminal and the male terminal immediately after the female terminal is disengaged from the male terminal, the arc suppression element providing a bypass between the female terminal and the male terminal so that arcing does not occur when the female terminal is disconnected from the male terminal of the mating electrical connector.

The present disclosure provides optical fiber preforms formed from core canes having large core-clad ratio, intermediate core-cladding assemblies, and methods for making the preforms and core cladding assemblies. The preforms are made from core canes having a contoured end surface. The contoured end surface(s) include a depression that acts to reduce the stress that develops at the junction of the end surface of the core cane with a soot cladding monolith arising from differences in the coefficient of thermal expansions of the core can and soot cladding monolith. The contoured end surface(s) leads to preforms having low defect concentration and low probability of failure during fiber draw.
