A pilot operated valve has a main poppet that selectively controls flow of fluid between first and second ports in response to pressure in a control chamber on one side of the main poppet. The main poppet has an aperture extending between the control chamber and the first port. A pilot piston slides within the aperture and has the pilot passage with a pilot orifice and a first disk spring biases the pilot piston with respect to the main poppet. A pilot valve element selectively engages the pilot orifice to open and close the pilot passage and thereby controls motion of the main poppet. Forces from the first disk spring and a pressure differential between control and pilot chambers alter a position of the pilot valve seat with respect to the main poppet. The change in position compensates for effects on valve operation due to variation of the pressure at the two ports.

Pilot operated valve with a pressure balanced poppet

A pilot operated valve has a main poppet that selectively controls bidirectional flow of fluid between two ports in response to pressure in a control chamber on one side of the main poppet. The main poppet has a pilot orifice that is opened and closed by a pilot poppet. A unique mechanism is provided to compensate for variation of a pressure differential on opposite sides of the pilot orifice. This mechanism has a pair of annular end members between which extends a spring formed by a plurality of helices. Multiple passages with check valves extend through the main poppet to communicate the greatest pressure among the two ports to the control chamber and the lowest pressure among the two ports to the side of the pilot orifice that is opposite the control chamber.

A pilot operated valve is provided to control a bidirectional flow of fluid between two ports. A main poppet selectively controls flow of fluid between the ports in response to pressure in a control chamber on one side of the main poppet. A pilot passage in the main poppet extends between the second port and the control chamber A first pair of check valves allow fluid to flow only into the pilot passage from the two ports. A second pair of check valves allow fluid to flow only into the control chamber from the two ports.

Bidirectional pilot operated control valve

A pilot operated control valve has a body with an inlet and an outlet. A main valve poppet is movable within the body to selectively control flow of fluid between the inlet and outlet. The main valve poppet has a flexible diaphragm with a pilot passage therethrough which is opened and closed by movement of a pilot poppet. The diaphragm flexes due to a pressure differential that acts on the pilot poppet, which flexing compensates for adverse effects that the pressure differential has on the operation of the pilot poppet.

A pilot operated control valve has a main poppet which selectively engages a valve seat to control flow of fluid between an inlet and an outlet. The flow of fluid through a pilot passage in the main poppet is controlled by a pilot poppet that has a pressure balancing stem extending into the pilot passage. The control valve incorporates a compression check valve and/or a reverse flow check valve, in addition to a transducer for sensing the pressure at the outlet.

A pilot operated control valve has a housing defining an inlet and an outlet. A main valve poppet selectively engages a valve seat to control flow of fluid between the inlet and outlet. An aperture in the main valve poppet opens into a control chamber on a side of the main poppet remote from the valve seat. A pilot passage is formed in the main valve poppet with an inlet section between the inlet and the control chamber, and an outlet section between the aperture and the control chamber. A pilot poppet has a body that selectively seals communication between the control chamber and the aperture, and a pressure balancing stem attached to the body extends into the aperture. The pressure balancing stem having a recess which is acted upon by pressure in the outlet section and having an end which is acted upon by pressure in the inlet section. The pilot operated control valve also incorporates a compression check valve and/or a reverse flow check valve.
