A roller bearing includes an inner race ring, an outer race ring, and a roller arranged between and in contact with the inner and outer rings. The bearing has a flange on the inner race ring at one axial end, and a flange on the outer race ring at an opposite axial end. At least one of the flanges, or an end of the roller, has a profile including a principal segment with a reference point C defining a contact location between the roller and the flange, the principal segment having a continuously changing radius of curvature, on both sides of reference point C, that decreases as a distance from the reference point C increases.

Non-elliptical contact profile for roller bearing

A roller bearing includes an inner race ring, an outer race ring, and a roller arranged between and in contact with the inner and outer rings. The bearing has a flange () on the inner race ring at one axial end, and a flange () on the outer race ring at an opposite axial end. One of the flanges, and/or an end of the roller, includes at least one principal segment () intermediate two additional segments (). The principle segment is tangentially blended with the two additional segments, and the principle segment has a first curvature that is different from the respective curvatures of the two additional segments. Each roller () includes a first end surface () in engagement with the inner guide surface () of the inner flange () as the plurality of rollers () move relative to the inner ring (). The first end surfaces () of each roller () define a curvature such that a ratio of a first principal effective curvature (Rx) radius in a plane perpendicular to the radial plane () and a second principal curvature radius (Ry) in the radial plane () is no less than 3.0.

A bearing assembly having an inner race ring () that defines an inner raceway and an outer race ring that defines an outer raceway on which the plurality of rolling elements () roll. The bearing raceways are machined using surface finishing operations to create preferred surface profiles and textures for improving lubrication performance. The profile of the raceway is initially created using a first grinding process to form a rough surface profile including a rough central band () and rough recessed side bands (). A second grinding process is used to smooth the central band. This raceway surface profile increases lubrication performance.

An electric motor comprising a rotor, a stator and a field weakening device.
