A rectifying arrangement for an LED driver comprising a rectifying circuit and a clamping arrangement provides a low-impedance path between input terminals of the rectifying circuit in response to an abnormal operation of the rectifying arrangement, such as an open circuit of one rectifying branch of the rectifying arrangement. The low-impedance path is maintained for a plurality of cycles of an AC power supply provided to the rectifying circuit, and can be maintained on a (semi-)permanent basis.

A voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is disclosed. The VCO includes an amplifier that receives a control signal and a feedback signal and generates an amplified output signal based on the difference between the control signal and the feedback signal. The VCO also includes circuitry to generate an oscillating output signal based on the amplifier output signal. Additionally, the VCO includes a feedback amplifier that generates the feedback signal based on the output of the amplifier. The feedback amplifier includes a first resistor connected in parallel with a second resistor, the second resistor having an adjustable resistance.

Embodiments relate to a voltage oscillator (VCO) that uses a replica bias circuit to generate a cascode bias voltage. The VCO generate an output periodic signal having a frequency and phase that is less or not susceptible to voltage swings by using a bias voltage generated in a replica bias circuit that replicates a voltage-to-current converter in the VOC. The bias voltage is generated and regulated according to a power supply voltage that supplies power to the VCO to account for voltage variations in the power supply voltage.

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to charge pump calibration for a dual-path phase-locked loop circuit. An embodiment of an apparatus includes a phase frequency detector; an integral path including a first charge pump; a proportional path including a second charge pump; and a calibration mechanism for the first charge pump and the second charge pump, the calibration mechanism including a phase detector to detect whether a reference clock signal or a feedback clock signal is leading or lagging in phase and to generate a signal indicating which clock signal is leading or lagging, a first memory element and a second memory element to store the signal from the phase detector, a first control logic to adjust current for the first charge pump based on the value stored in the first memory element, and a second control logic to adjust current for the second charge pump based on the value stored in the second memory element.
