A display may include an array of pixels covered by lenticular lenses. The lenticular lenses may cause expansion of light primarily in a horizontal direction. To improve the perceived resolution of the display, the horizontal resolution of the pixels on the display may be increased. In one possible layout, each pixel includes one red sub-pixel, one blue sub-pixel, and one green sub-pixel. The sub-pixels may be non-square rectangular. The sub-pixels may be the same size or may have the same widths and different heights. Each pixel may be asymmetric about a horizontal axis. In a given row, the pixels may alternate between first and second layouts. The second layout may be a vertically flipped version of the first layout.

Pixel arrangements for displays with lenticular lenses

Systems and methods for electronic displays to use reference voltages to control driving current of illuminators are provided. The reference voltages are used to reduce or eliminate cross talk in driving voltages among different illuminators and driving voltage variations from frame to frame. The transient performance of the driving current of the illuminator (e.g., the current rise/decline time, current overshoot issue, current settling time) may be improved by implementing the reference voltages.

Method and apparatus for LED driver to reduce cross talk or flicker

Local passive matrix displays and methods of operation are described. In an embodiment, the display includes a pixel driver chip coupled with a matrix of rows and columns of LEDs. The pixel driver chips may be arranged in rows across the display with separate portions to operate separate matrices of LEDs.

An electronic display includes an active area including multiple pixels. The electronic display also includes a first row driver set including a first column of row drivers and a second column of row drivers. A first active row driver in the first column of row drivers drives a first portion of the multiple pixels, and a first spare row driver in the second column of row drivers is in an inactive state. The electronic display also includes a second row driver set including a third column of row drivers and a fourth column of row drivers. A third active row driver in the third column of row drivers drives a second portion of the multiple pixels, and a second spare row driver in the fourth column of row drivers is inactive.

Hybrid architectures and method methods of operating a display panel are described. In an embodiment, row driver and pixel driver functions are combined in a group of backbone hybrid pixel driver chips, wherein global signal lines are distributed to the backbone hybrid pixel driver chips, where the global signals are manipulated and distributed to a row of pixel driver chips.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for testing and repairing various aspects of an electronic display. The electronic display includes a reference array and an active array. The electronic display also includes test circuitry used to test individual or any combination of pixels of the electronic display. Switches may be disposed between the pixels and the test circuitry to be to repair the various components of the electronic display.

An electronic device may include a display. The display includes display driver circuitry for driving data lines routed across the display. The electronic device may have a recessed device housing region, where at least some of the data lines are routed around the recessed region. The data lines being routed around the recessed region may be formed in at least two different metal routing layers. The electronic device may further include additional display driver circuitry for driving data lines from another peripheral housing edge to obviate the need to route around the recessed region. The data lines from the two display driver circuitries can be disconnected at random locations or can be interlaced to achieve spatial interleaving. The display driver circuitry may include demultiplexing circuitry having smaller switches coupled in parallel with larger demultiplexer routing switches to reduce voltage kick and charge injection.

Electronic devices with narrow border displays

A display device may include a plurality of pixels that may display image data on a display. The display device may also include a circuit that may receive pixel data including a gray level for at least one pixel of the plurality of pixels. The circuit may then receive an emission clock signal using a clock circuit based on the pixel data, such that the emission clock signal may cause the at least one pixel to receive a current for an amount of time based on the gray level. The circuit may then gate off the clock circuit after the amount of time.
