Embodiments include a method, a cognitive software porting assistant system, and a computer program product for operating a cognitive software porting assistant system. Embodiments include analyzing code to identify strings of the code, tokenizing the strings of the code into tokens, and identifying a first set of tokens and a second set of tokens from the tokens, wherein the first set of tokens corresponds to a first platform and the second set of tokens corresponds to the second platform. Embodiments also include generating a first syntax tree for the first set of tokens and a second syntax tree for the second set of tokens, and serializing the first syntax tree and the second syntax tree. Embodiments include comparing the first serialized syntax tree with the second serialized syntax tree, and saving a mapping of the first serialized syntax tree and second serialized syntax tree responsive to the comparison.

Cognitive software porting assistant system

Provided is a method for string comparison. The method includes receiving a plurality of target strings. Each target string of the plurality of target strings comprises a sequence of characters. The method further includes creating a character index for the plurality of target strings having a plurality of entries corresponding to the sequence of characters. The method further includes prioritizing the plurality of entries. The method further includes determining an evaluation method for the plurality of target strings based on the plurality of prioritized entries. The method further includes performing the evaluation method for the plurality of target strings.

The disclosure provides a method for detection of an uninitialized variable. The method includes running a first function, wherein the first function comprises a local variable and a first flag associated with the local variable for indicating an initialization state of the local variable; calling a second function from the first function, with the local variable as a parameter of the second function, wherein the second function comprises a second flag associated with the parameter for indicating an initialization state of the parameter; and updating the first flag based at least on the second flag returned from the second function.

Runtime detection of uninitialized variable across functions

A computer implemented method for selecting breakpoints for cross-layer debugging is provided. The method includes receiving code comprising a plurality of layers, and executing a static analysis of the code to obtain a use-definition (UD) chain, alias information, and a parameter mapping for each of the plurality of layers. The method also includes determining a statement of the code that produces one of an error and a failure, and generating a table comprising a plurality of fields including a working statement field, watching variable field, and a watching function field. The method includes adding the determined statement to the working statement field and performing a cross-layer analysis includes identifying at least one used variable and its associated alias as watching variables from the added working statement, searching the code based on the watching variable field. The method includes generating cross-layer suspect code points based on the cross-layer analysis.

Generating breakpoints for cross-layer debugging

A template function is received. The template function includes one or more data types. A single abstract instantiation of the template function is created. An abstract internal descriptor for each data type is created. A map set for each abstract internal descriptor is created. The number of instantiations required and the type of instantiation required is provided. A finished object is created using each map set. The finished object is a translation of the intermediate representation into assembly code.

Optimized compiling of a template function

A method and system for structuring program code to implement program debugging of the program code using tracking of variables. A first variable to be tracked and a first expression associated with the first variable are determined. The program code includes the first variable and the first expression. A reverse scanning of the program code is performed to search for a first assignment expression within a first assignment statement that assigns a value of the first assignment expression to the first variable. In response to finding the first assignment expression via the reverse scanning, a first watch point for determining a true/false value of the first expression is inserted into the program code after the first assignment statement.

Variable tracking in program debugging

The present disclosure relates to a stack overflow protection device and a stack protection method. According to the present disclosure, a stack overflow protection device is provided, which includes a dividing unit configured to divide at least one function in the input codes into a code region with a string operation and a code region without a string operation. The device also includes a stack protection unit configured to set up stack protection in the code region with a string operation. The present disclosure further provides a stack protection method.
