An apparatus and system to compensate for phase noise in a 5G or 6G DFT-S-OFDM signal are described. An access port (AP)-specific orthogonal cover code (OCC) is applied to phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) symbols in each of a plurality of PTRS groups. The PTRS group are inserted between data symbols to form a data vector prior to perform transform precoding on the data vector and transmission to a UE. The UE extracts the PTRS symbols from different PTRS APs using the OCC specific to each AP. After extraction, the phase noise for each PTRS group is estimated and used to compensate the data symbols associated with the PTRS group.

Phase tracking reference signal for 6G wireless communication

Apparatus and method are provided to determine the starting subframe of a data channel. In one novel aspect, the UE monitors one or more control channel candidates, which at least one of the control channel candidate occupies a plurality of the subframes. The UE detects a control channel intended for the UE, decodes the control channel and determines the starting subframe of the data channel based on the control channel and a known gap. In another novel aspect, the UE further obtains a subframe indicator from the control channel. The subframe indicator signals either the number of subframes between the starting subframe of the data channel and the starting subframe of the control channel, or the number of subframes of the control channel, or the starting subframe of the data channel. In another embodiment, predefined rule can be applied to the subframe indicator to determining the starting subframe of the data channel.

Method to determine the starting subframe of data channel

Methods and apparatus are provided for narrowband UEs. In one novel aspect, frequency hopping is used. The UE stays on the first frequency band for consecutive number of subframes before hopping to another frequency band. In another embodiment, the first set of resource elements and the second set of resource elements are discontinued with a gap in the time domain. In another novel aspect, the UE obtains sub-band information and a resource index and generates a communication channel for data frame transmission and receiving. In one embodiment, the UE further acquires the sub-band set information through system information. In yet another embodiment, the resource index is acquired from DCI. In yet another novel aspect, resource blocks are selected for a PUCCH for a narrowband UE. The UE determines an operating sub-band information and selects one or more narrowband regions for the PUCCH.

Methods and apparatus for communicating in a wireless network including apparatus comprising transceiver circuitry to send and receive data in a plurality of time periods, defined by a time division duplex (TDD) time grid, to another entity, the plurality of time periods corresponding to a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols and the transceiver circuitry being operable to switch from receive mode to transmit mode and/or from transmit mode to receive mode according to a flexible uplink and downlink allocation of the plurality of time periods; and baseband circuitry coupled to the transceiver circuitry to control the transceiver circuitry to switch during a switching interval embedded within a time period corresponding to an OFDM symbol of the plurality of OFDM symbols.

Time grid with time division duplex switching intervals

A wireless terminal receives signaling information, pertaining to a reference signal transmission in at least one specifically designated sub frame, the signaling information including a list, the list including base station identities. The terminal determines, from at least one of the base station identities in the list, the time-frequency resources associated with a reference signal transmission intended for observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) measurements from a transmitting base station associated with said one base station identity. The time of arrival of a transmission from the transmitting base station, relative to reference timing, is measured. The wireless terminal can receive a command from a serving cell to start performing inter-frequency OTDOA measurement on a frequency layer containing reference signals, the frequency layer distinct from the serving frequency layer, the serving frequency layer not containing positioning reference signals. The wireless terminal can perform OTDOA measurements subsequent to the reception of the command on a carrier frequency different from the serving cell carrier frequency. A base station transmitter can jointly schedule a reference signal transmission from a plurality of base station transmitters for the purpose of OTD estimation enhancement, and transmit identical reference signals from the plurality of base station transmitters, the reference signals being identical both in the signal sequence and time-frequency resources used for transmission.

Interference control, SINR optimization and signaling enhancements to improve the performance of OTDOA measurements

A method of interference cancellation is proposed. A UE obtains configuration information of a data transmission from a neighboring cell via an interference channel in a mobile communication network. The UE receives radio signals on a set of data resource elements as determined based on the obtained configuration information. The UE then estimates the interference channel corresponding to the data transmission from the neighboring cell based on the received radio signals on the set of data resource elements. Finally, the UE cancels the data transmission from the neighboring cell based on the estimated interference channel.

Method for cancelling a data transmission of a neighboring cell

Technology for an eNodeB to communicate with a user equipment (UE) using a extended downlink (DL) self-contained frame within a wireless communication network is disclosed. The eNodeB can process data to form an extended downlink (DL) self-contained frame, comprising: a first self-contained subframe including a DL control data, DL data, uplink (UL) control data, and one or more reference symbols; an Mth subframe is located subsequent to the first self-contained subframe, the Mth subframe including one or more resource elements configured for DL data, wherein M is a positive integer greater that is greater than one; and an Nth subframe that is subsequent to the Mth subframe, the Nth subframe including one or more resource elements configured for UL control data. The eNodeB can process the extended DL self-contained frame for transmission to the UE.

Flexible universal extended frame structure

Apparatus and method are provided to determine the starting subframe of a data channel. In one novel aspect, the UE monitors one or more control channel candidates, which at least one of the control channel candidate occupies a plurality of the subframes. The UE detects a control channel intended for the UE, decodes the control channel and determines the starting subframe of the data channel based on the control channel and a known gap. Apparatus and methods are provided to enhance HARQ mechanism. In one novel aspect, the UE decodes resource blocks in a HARQ indicator channel and detects a single-state HARQ indicator encoded with a UE ID of the UE. The UE determines a HARQ acknowledgment status for the data transmission based on the HARQ indicator. In one embodiment, the HARQ indicator channel is either a UE-specific channel, a group-specific channel or a cell-specific channel. In another novel aspect, the UE increases a HARQ count upon decoding the HARQ indicator channel. The UE retransmits the data transmission if the HARQ count is smaller than a predefined maximum HARQ count and the HARQ acknowledgement status is determined to be negative. Otherwise, the UE stops the data transmission. In another embodiment, the UE terminates the data transmission is the total repetition number is greater than a predefined maximum data transmission number.

Methods for enhanced HARQ mechanism

Apparatus and methods are provided to report channel status with transmission repetition. In one novel aspect, the mobile station computes a transmission efficiency for a transport block, which is repeatedly transmitted such that the transport block is received with a predefined receiving quality; determines a channel quality indicator based on the transmission efficiency and transmits it to a base station. In one embodiment, the transport block is repeatedly transmitted over multiple subframes. In another novel aspect, the mobile station computes a plurality of transmission efficiencies corresponding to a plurality of transport blocks, wherein at least one transport block is repeatedly transmitted such that each transport block is received with a pre-defined receiving quality. The mobile station determines one or more channel quality indicators based on the transmission efficiencies and transmits either the channel quality indicator with the highest efficiency or each channel quality indicator to a base station.

Method for channel quality report

A method of small cell discovery and RSRP/RSRQ measurements in OFDM/OFDMA systems is proposed. A discovery reference signal (DRS) with low transmission frequency is introduced to support small cell detection within a short time, multiple small cell discovery, and accurate measurement of multiple small cells. The DRS consists of one or multiple reference signal types with the functionalities including timing and frequency synchronization, cell detection, RSRP/RSSI/RSRQ measurements, and interference mitigation. RE muting is configured for the DRS to reduce interference level from data to DRS for discovery and RSRP/RSRQ measurements for small cells.

Methods of discovery and measurements for small cells in OFDM/OFDMA systems

A wireless communication base station is disclosed. The base station includes a transceiver coupled to a controller configured to generate a sub-frame having first control region for a first set of users and a second control region for a second set of users that do not receive the first control region, the first control region has a fixed starting location within the sub-frame and the second control region has a starting location that is one of several possible starting locations within the sub-frame, wherein the controller is configured to cause the transceiver to transmit the sub-frame to the first and second sets of users without signaling the starting location of the second control region in the sub-frame.

Resource sharing in relay operations within wireless communication systems

Apparatus and methods are provided for TDM uplink transmission on multiple serving cells with single transmitter. In one novel aspect, the UE selects a serving cell for an UL transmission subframe based on a TDM selection rule. In one embodiment, the switching rule involves identifying one or more serving cells with a highest UL transmission priority and a serving-cell priority rule. In another novel aspect, the UE drops a selected part of the UL transmission within the overlap region based on one or more switching rules, which include dropping a last OFDM symbol, dropping a portion of a last OFDM symbol of the SRS with combing structure, dropping a partial CP of a first OFDM symbol of the second serving cell, and dropping a partial tail of a last OFDM symbol of the first serving cell and partial CP of a first OFDM symbol of the second serving cell.
