A circuit breaker includes: first and second contacts moveable relative to each other along an axis of the circuit breaker between an open and closed configuration and defining an arcing region in which an arc is formed during current breaking operation; a nozzle directing a flow of quenching gas onto the arcing region during current breaking operation, a diffusor downstream of the nozzle for further transporting the quenching gas within the arcing region and/or downstream of the arcing region, and a mechanical swirling device arranged downstream of the nozzle and at least partially in the diffusor for imparting a swirl onto the quenching gas flowing along the diffusor, the mechanical swirling device having an axial overlap with the second contact in the open configuration of the circuit breaker.

Circuit breaker and method of performing a current breaking operation

An electric switching device filled with a dielectric insulating medium includes first and second arcing contact, first exhaust volume downstream of first arcing contact and second exhaust volume downstream of second arcing contact. The exhaust volumes includes several first openings in their walls, through which the insulating medium exits into third volume. The third volume is arranged around the first or second exhaust volume and is radially delimited by the wall of the exhaust volumes and by an exterior wall having second openings through which the insulating medium exits the third volume. One baffle device is provided inside third volume such that vortex flow of the insulating medium is generated when it passes the baffle device on its way towards the second openings. Turbulent flow conditions are chosen such that gravitational force allows to trap or contributes to trap particles in the baffle device. The baffle device comprises baffle plates or fins, that are arranged to form cavities for capturing the particles by gravitational force.

An electrical switching device is filled with a dielectric insulating medium comprising an organofluorine compound, in particular a fluoroether, a fluoroarnine, a fluoroketone or a fluoroolefin, and comprises at least an arcing contact arrangement with a first arcing contact and a mating second arcing contact. At least a first intermediate volume is provided downstream from the first arcing contact, and/or at least a second intermediate volume is provided downstream from the second arcing contact. The intermediate volumes are for intermediate pressure enhancement and exhaust gas jet formation for turbulent convective heat transfer to metal walls of the exhaust system. In embodiments, the first and/or second intermediate volume is delimited by at least one moveable wall arranged transversally to the longitudinal axis and shiftable parallel to it by an actuation device.

Electrical switching device

A high-voltage switch has a metal container filled with insulating gas, and a quenching chamber installed in the container. The quenching chamber contains a housing which is aligned along an axis, an arcing contact arrangement which is held in the housing, an exhaust volume which is bounded by the housing, and an outlet channel which is passed through the wall of the housing for exhaust gases. The outlet channel opens with a mouth section which is aligned predominantly axially into the container. The mouth section is bounded on the inside by a tubular section of the housing and on the outside by a tubular housing attachment which surrounds the housing section at a distance from it. An electrically shielded edge which is passed in an annular shape around the axis is arranged on one end face of the housing attachment on which edge a flow, which emerges from the outlet channel of the exhaust gases is detached from the housing attachment.

The disclosure relates to an electrical switching device, e.g., a generator circuit breaker, and to a method for improved switching-gas cooling. Gas jets are formed by a nozzle body in the exhaust area, are directed against a baffle wall and are swirled. The baffle wall is a component of the switching chamber enclosure and has a high thermal capacity and/or thermal conductivity, so that the switching gas vortices produce a highly efficient switching gas cooling on the baffle wall by turbulent convection. Exemplary embodiments relate inter alia to the design of the baffle wall and of the nozzle body. Advantages include: protection of the switching chamber enclosure against hot gases, improved switching gas cooling, and increased breaking capacity.

Generator circuit breaker with improved switching capacity

An exemplary circuit breaker has in an enclosure filled with an insulating gas at least one interrupting chamber extending along a longitudinal axis. The interrupting chamber can be configured radially symmetrically and contains an arcing volume and at least two associated arcing contacts. The arcing volume is actively connected to at least one exhaust having an exhaust volume. The exhaust is constructed for cooling hot gases generated during breaking operations and is connected to a volume of the interrupting chamber. The breaking capacity of this circuit breaker can be increased significantly and the exhaust can be constructed in a comparatively simple and cost effective manner. This can be achieved by providing in the area of the exhaust at least one forcibly created recirculation area which increases the flow resistance of the hot gases.

Circuit breaker

The invention relates to an improvement to the thermal load capacity of generator switches (). As is known, radiation plates () are used between generator switches () for different phases (R, Y, B) for convective dissipation of radiated heat from adjacent encapsulation side walls (). According to the invention, in the vicinity of the encapsulation cover () of a generator switch (), the radiation plate () has at least one angled metal sheet () which is used to guide at least one air flow element () of the rising air flow () in the direction of the encapsulation cover () and in order to direct the flow along the encapsulation cover (). Exemplary embodiments include: radiation plates () electrically and thermally isolated from the housing (); radiation plates () with horizontally deflecting air guidance structures () on the inner face (); angled metal sheet () whose inclination is matched to a flattened area () on the encapsulation cover (); angled metal sheet () directed at cooling elements () on the encapsulation cover (). Advantages include: generator switches () with improved heat emission, increased rated current carrying capacity, and/or a more compact configuration.

An exemplary circuit breaker includes at least one arcing chamber that is filled with isolating gas, extends along a longitudinal axis, is designed to be essentially radially symmetrical, contains an arc area and has at least two power contact pieces. At least one of the power contact pieces is in the form of a moving or stationery tubular hollow contact, which is provided for dissipating hot gases from the arc area into a concentrically arranged exhaust body. A deflection device, which interacts with at least one opening in the hollow contact, is arranged on the side of the hollow contact facing away from the arc area, and radially deflects hot gases into the exhaust volume, which is connected through at least one second opening to an arcing chamber volume. An increased disconnection rating is achieved by providing at least one intermediate body between the hollow contact and the exhaust body.

This circuit-breaker has at least one arcing chamber which is filled with isolating gas, extends along a longitudinal axis, is designed to be essentially radially symmetrical, contains an arc area and has at least two power contact pieces. At least one of the power contact pieces is in the form of a moving or stationery tubular hollow contact, which is provided for dissipating hot gases from the arc area into a concentrically arranged exhaust body. A deflection device, which interacts with at least one opening in the hollow contact, is arranged on the side of the hollow contact facing away from the arc area, for the radial deflection of the hot gases into the exhaust volume, which is connected through at least one second opening to an arcing chamber volume. The aim is to increase the disconnection rating of this circuit-breaker. This is achieved by providing at least one intermediate body between the hollow contact and the exhaust body.
