A method for processing service fault assessment requests. The method includes: receiving a service fault assessment request concerning a new composed service; making a determination that the new composed service is already configured; based on the determination: building a service fault matrix for the new composed service; obtaining a cluster fault matrix for a composed service cluster to which the new composed service belongs; making a second determination, based on a search performed using the service fault matrix and the cluster fault matrix, that an overlapping composable resource has been identified; based on the second determination: generating a service fault assessment report including identification metadata associated with the overlapping composable resource; and providing the service fault assessment report in response to the service fault assessment request.

Fault isolation for composed services

A method for facilitating a connection to a storage volume, that includes receiving, by a storage manager, an access request from compute node, where the access request includes a storage volume identifier associated with the storage volume, performing a lookup, in a target database, to identify a target entry that includes the storage volume identifier, making a first determination that the target database does not comprise the target entry, and based on the first determination, creating a first storage target cluster for the storage volume, and sending first connection instructions to the compute node, where the first connection instructions comprise a first storage target cluster identifier associated with the first storage target cluster.

Systems and methods for establishing scalable storage targets

A method is used in managing an asynchronous and synchronous transmit priority mechanism. The method receives a plurality of replication requests in conjunction with a replication process, where the plurality of replication requests comprises at least one of a first replication request or a second replication request. A first storage system that comprises a plurality of storage devices is configured to participate in the replication process with a second storage system that comprises a plurality of storage devices. The method determines an execution order to optimize processing of the plurality of replication requests, where a first replication request execution order that optimizes processing of the at least one first replication request conflicts with optimizing processing of the at least one second replication request.

Asynchronous and synchronous transmit priority mechanism

A Logically Composed System (LCS) data provisioning system includes an orchestrator device that includes a cache subsystem and that is coupled to client devices and storage subsystem(s). When the orchestrator device identifies that a first client device has exclusive access to the storage subsystem(s), it activates read data caching for the storage subsystem(s). The orchestrator device then receives a first read request from the first client device that is directed to first data that is stored in the storage subsystem(s) and, in response, retrieves the first data from the cache subsystem and provides the first data to the first client device. When the orchestrator device identifies that the first client device no longer has exclusive access to the storage subsystem(s), it deactivates the read data caching for the storage subsystem(s).

LCS data provisioning system

An apparatus includes at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory, with the processing device being configured to maintain a synchronous replication input-output (IO) request list having a plurality of entries corresponding to respective synchronous replication IO requests, a given such entry identifying at least a sender component and one or more associated component resources to be released responsive to a failure of the sender component. The processing device is further configured to detect a failure of a particular one of a plurality of sender components, to access the synchronous replication IO request list to determine one or more associated component resources to be released, to release the one or more associated component resources, and to update the synchronous replication IO request list by marking the one or more associated component resources as released. Other embodiments include methods and computer program products.

Storage system with efficient release of failed component resources during synchronous replication

An LCS data compression/decompression system includes an orchestrator device in a resource system with a host operating system and coupled to a storage system via a network. The orchestrator device receives a read instruction from the host operating system directed to data stored in the storage system and, in response, retrieves and uses a data read decompression policy to select one of the storage system and the orchestrator device to perform data decompression operations on the data. The orchestrator device then provides a data read decompression instruction to the storage system to cause the storage system to provide the data to the orchestrator device such that the orchestrator device provides the data to the host operation system after the one of the storage system and the orchestrator device selected using the data read decompression policy performs the data decompression operations on the data.

LCS data compression/decompression system

A method is provided, comprising: receiving, at a source system, a first copy instruction, the first copy instruction being associated with a token that represents one or more data items, the first copy instruction instructing the source system to copy the one or more data items from a first volume to a second volume; in response to the first copy instruction, retrieving one or more hash digests from a snapshot that is associated with the token, each of the one or more hash digests being associated with a different one of the one or more data items; and transmitting, to a target system, a second copy instruction that is associated with the one or more hash digests, the second copy instruction instructing the target system to copy the one or more data items to a replica of the second volume that is stored at the target system.

Token-based offload data transfer with synchronous replication

A method may select a surviving storage node based on environmental conditions. A request for exclusive access to a volume is received. A score based on data associated with an environment of the node is determined for each node in a cluster. Based on the scores, a node to grant exclusive access to the volume is identified, and such exclusive access is granted to the identified node.

The processing device is configured to identify a plurality of resource objects associated with a processing device, to group correlated resource objects according to processing device utilization of the resource objects, to assign a first weight to a first resource object grouping, wherein the first weight is associated with a performance impact of the first resource object grouping on the processing device, and to release at least some of the first resource object grouping to provide additional resources to a second resource object grouping, the additional resources resulting from the releasing, wherein the first object grouping is selected for the releasing based on a comparison between the first weight and a second weight associated with the second resource object grouping, wherein the releasing is performed to improve performance of the processing device.

An apparatus includes at least one processing device configured to establish a plurality of paths between at least one initiator of a host device and a plurality of targets of respective storage nodes of a distributed storage system, and for each of a plurality of input-output operations generated in the host device for delivery to the distributed storage system: to access a target lookup service of the host device to determine a particular one of the storage nodes that stores data for a logical storage volume and offset targeted by the input-output operation, to select a particular one of the plurality of paths from the initiator to one of the targets on the particular storage node, and to send the input-output operation to the particular storage node over the selected path. The initiator and the targets are illustratively configured in accordance with a designated standard storage access protocol.

A method is provided for use in a storage system, the method comprising: receiving an I/O request at an R-node; generating a deadline for the I/O request; generating a C-node command based on the I/O request; transmitting the C-node command and the I/O request to a C-node; calculating, by the C-node, a first remaining time based on the deadline; detecting, by the C-node, whether the first remaining time meets a first threshold; when the first remaining time meets the first threshold, executing the I/O request and transmitting, from the C-node to the R-node, synchronous replication request that is associated with the C-node command; and when the first remaining time does not meet the first threshold, causing the storage system to stop performing synchronous replication and executing the C-node command.

A method, computer program product, and computing system for receiving, at a cache memory system, a write request for writing data to a storage system. A data reduction rate may be predicted for the write request. One or more portions of memory within the storage system may be allocated based upon, at least in part, the predicted data reduction rate for the write request. The write request may be flushed from the cache memory system to the allocated one or more portions of memory within the storage system.

System and method for machine learning-driven cache flushing

At least one processing device receives a create-token command from a host device. Responsive to receipt of the create-token command, the processing device creates the token, generates an in-memory snapshot of data in one or more logical address ranges of one or more source storage volumes, associates the in-memory snapshot with the token, and provides the token to the host device. The processing device receives a write-via token command from the host device, the write-via-token command specifying the token and one or more logical address ranges of one or more target storage volumes. Responsive to receipt of the write-via-token command, the processing device determines whether or not differential metadata of the storage system includes one or more entries for the one or more logical address ranges of the one or more source storage volumes, and controls execution of the write-via-token command based at least in part on the determination.

Efficient token management in a storage system

A method is provided, comprising: receiving, from a host device, a request to create a token that represents one or more data items that are stored in a first volume, the first volume being stored in a source system; estimating an I/O latency limit for the first volume; estimating a token creation time for the token; comparing the token creation time to the I/O latency limit; when the token creation time matches the I/O latency limit: creating the token, creating a snapshot pair, mapping the token to the snapshot pair, and returning the token to the host device; when the token creation time does not match the I/O latency limit: creating the token, creating a first snapshot of the first volume at the source system, mapping the first snapshot to the token, and returning the token to the host device.
