A process for producing syngas that uses the syngas product from an oxygen-fired reformer to provide all necessary heating duties, which eliminates the need for a fired heater. Without the flue gas stream leaving a fired heater, all of the carbon dioxide produced by the reforming process is concentrated in the high-pressure syngas stream, allowing essentially complete carbon dioxide capture.

Process for H2 and syngas production

A process for producing syngas that uses the syngas product from a partial oxidation reactor to provide all necessary heating duties, which eliminates the need for a fired heater. Soot is removed from the syngas using a dry filter to avoid a wet scrubber quenching the syngas stream and wasting the high-quality heat. Without the flue gas stream leaving a fired heater, all of the carbon dioxide produced by the reforming process is concentrated in the high-pressure syngas stream, allowing essentially complete carbon dioxide capture.

A segregated steam system and process in a hydrogen production facility wherein boiler feed water is heated by indirect heat exchange with a reformate, the heated boiler feed water is used to heat water condensate formed from the reformate, the heated water condensate is passed to a first steam drum for producing steam for a reformer feed gas mixture, and a second portion of the heated boiler feed water is passed to a second steam drum for producing steam for export.

Process for producing hydrogen where multiple streams are heated in parallel with reformate that has passed from the shift reactor. Each of the multiple streams are heated from a temperature below the dew point of the reformate to a temperature above the dew point of the reformate by reformate that is cooled from a temperature above the dew point of the reformate to a temperature below the dew point of the reformate. The multiple streams can include two or more of water condensate, boiler feed water, hydrocarbon feedstock, and pressure swing adsorption unit by-product gas.

Process for producing a hydrogen-containing product and one or more liquid water products using catalytic steam-hydrocarbon reforming. In the process, a portion of the make-up water is heated by the reformate and another portion of the make-up water is heated by the combustion product gas prior to introducing the make-up water to a deaerator. Water in the combustion product gas is condensed to form a liquid water product. The process may be integrated with a thermal water desalination process.

A system is set forth for the exothermic generation of soot depleted syngas comprising (i) reacting a hydrocarbon-containing fuel with an oxygen containing gas in a first reactor to produce the syngas and byproducts comprising CO, HO and soot; and (ii) introducing the syngas and byproducts into a second reactor containing a non-carbonaceous material that traps the soot for a sufficient time such that the majority of the byproduct soot is gasified via reaction with the byproduct COand/or HO to produce a syngas stream that is depleted in the soot. The system is particularly suitable for the practice of heat exchange reforming wherein a portion of the heat is recovered from the soot depleted syngas stream and used as at least a portion of the heat to facilitate the additional production of syngas via the (endothermic) catalytic reforming of natural gas and steam.
