In one embodiment of the present invention, a method for multiple device interaction includes detecting an orientation of a first device relative to a second device. The method also includes detecting a first gesture performed with either the first device or the second device, wherein the first gesture causes a first action that is based at least in part on the orientation of the first device relative to the second device.

Techniques for interacting with handheld devices

In one embodiment of the present invention, at least a portion of a keyboard is displayed on a touch-screen display. A first action performed via the touch-screen display is detected. Based on the detected first action, a region of the at least a portion of the keyboard is displayed on the touch-screen display. A second action performed via the touch-screen display is detected. Based on the second action, a character may be selected or the full keyboard may be re-displayed. The first action and the second action may be performed anywhere on the touch display.

In one embodiment of the present invention, a gesture recognition application enables interactive entry via a touch pad. In operation, the gesture recognition application partitions the touch pad into multiple zones. Upon detecting a gesture via the touch pad, the gesture recognition application determines whether the gesture is zone-specific. If the gesture is zone-specific, then the gesture recognition application determines the zone based on the location of the gesture and then selects an input group based on the zone and the type of gesture. If the gesture is zone-agnostic, then the gesture recognition application selects an input group based on the type of gesture, irrespective of the location of the gesture. Advantageously, by providing zone-specific gesture recognition, the gesture recognition application increases the usability of touch pads with form factors that limit the type of gestures that can be efficiently performed via the touch pad.

Techniques for interacting with wearable devices

A 'Motion and Context Sharing Technique' uses a pen or stylus enhanced to incorporate multiple sensors, i.e., a 'sensor pen,' and a power supply to enable various input techniques and gestures. Various combinations of pen stroke, pressure, motion, and other sensor pen inputs are used to enable various hybrid input techniques that incorporate simultaneous, concurrent, sequential, and/or interleaved, sensor pen inputs and touch inputs (i.e., finger, palm, hand, etc.) on displays or other touch sensitive surfaces. This enables a variety of motion-gesture inputs relating to the context of how the sensor pen is used or held, even when the pen is not in contact or within sensing range of the computing device digitizer. In other words, any particular touch inputs or combinations of touch inputs are correlated with any desired sensor pen inputs, with those correlated inputs then being used to initiate any desired action by the computing device.
