Embodiments are directed to polymer blends and molded articles including polymer blends. Embodiments of the polymer blend may include 1 to 40 wt. % of a crystalline block composite and from 60 wt. % to 99 wt. % of an ionomer formed from a partially neutralized precursor acid copolymer. The crystalline block composite may include an EP-iPP diblock polymer, an isotactic polypropylene homopolymer, and a copolymer of ethylene and propylene. The crystalline block composite may include greater than 50 wt. % of the isotactic polypropylene homopolymer. The precursor acid copolymer may include copolymerized units of ethylene and 5 wt. % to 30 wt. %, based on the total weight of the precursor acid copolymer, of copolymerized units of an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms. About 25% to about 65% of the acid groups derived from the α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid of the precursor acid copolymer may be neutralized.

Polymer blends having improved thermal properties

Described in embodiments herein are ionomers comprising a neutralized blend of an ethylene acid copolymer, an aliphatic and a mono-functional organic acid. The blend includes from 40 wt % to 95 wt % of the ethylene acid copolymer, from 5 to 50 wt % of the aliphatic, mono-functional organic acid, based on the total weight of the blend. The ethylene acid copolymer is the polymerized reaction product of ethylene, from 1 to 25 wt % of monocarboxylic acid and from 1 to 40 wt % of alkyl acrylate, based on the total weight of the monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer. The aliphatic, mono-functional organic acid has fewer than 36 carbon atoms. In various embodiments, at least 70 mole % of total acid units are neutralized with both a trivalent cation and either a mono- or di-valent cation.

Ionomer compositions

A poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound comprising: a) poly alpha-1,3-glucan, and b) a functionalized polyolefin; wherein said poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound comprises from 0.5 to 70 weight percent of poly alpha-1,3-glucan, based on the total weight of poly alpha-1,3-glucan (a) and functionalized polyolefin (b) in the poly alpha-1,3-glucan compound and wherein said functionalized polyolefin is grafted onto the poly alpha-1,3-glucan. These poly alpha-1,3-glucan compounds have many uses including films for packaging applications and as elastomers for automotive applications.

A molded article formed from a blend, the blend comprising: from 1 wt. % to 30 wt. % of a polypropylene; and from 60 wt. % to 99 wt. % of an ionomer formed from a partially neutralized precursor acid copolymer, wherein the precursor acid copolymer (a) comprises copolymerized units of ethylene and 5 wt. % to 30 wt. %, based on the total weight of the precursor acid copolymer, of copolymerized units of an ?,?-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, and (b) has a melt index, I2, (according to ASTM D1238 at 190 C, 2.16 kg) of 10 g/10 min to 4,000 g/10 min, and wherein about 25% to about 65% of the acid groups derived from the ?,?-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid of the precursor acid copolymer are neutralized.

Molded articles, and methods thereof

Described herein are polyamide compositions comprising poly alpha-1,3-glucan in combination with a compatibilizer and processes for preparing such compositions. Such polyamide compositions exhibit improved elongation at break compared to polyamide compositions which lack a compatibilizer. These polyamide compositions exhibit an elongation at break of at least 9 percent when measured according to ASTM D638 after exposure to water at 120&#xb0; C. at 2 atm pressure for 192 hours.
