A method for manufacturing a syringe is described. The syringe includes a barrel having an open proximal end, a piston shaft having proximal and distal ends, and a piston having a longitudinal axis and opposing proximal and distal axial ends. Initially, a partially formed piston body is molded. The piston is then completely molded. The distal end of the piston shaft is engaged with the proximal axial end of the piston. The piston engaged with the piston shaft is received in the open proximal end of the barrel.

Solid-state branching and/or crosslinking of aliphatic polyamide or polyester articles is achieved using a topical approach. A surface of the article is coated with a composition that includes a polyene and a free radical initiator. The article and applied coating are then heated to induce branching and/or crosslinking in the polyamide or polyester. This is performed below the crystalline melting temperature of the polyamide or polyester, or in the case of a fabric, below the melting temperature of the fibers in the fabric. Fabrics treated in this manner exhibit reduced or even no dripping in vertical flame tests.

Solid-state method for treating polyamide and polyester articles

A piston having a longitudinal axis and opposing proximal and distal axial ends is manufactured by a method including molding a partially formed piston body and then molding the piston. The partially formed piston body is molded by placing a first rubber sheet and an inert film between die plates of a first forming tool, vulcanizing the first rubber sheet and the inert film between the die plates of the first forming tool, and blanking out the partially formed piston body from the first rubber sheet and the inert film. The piston is then molded by placing the partially formed piston body into a second forming tool, placing a second rubber sheet into the second forming tool, vulcanizing the second rubber sheet and the partially formed piston body together, and blanking out the piston from the second rubber sheet at a trim edge spaced apart from the inert film.

A piston to be provided within an inner wall of a barrel of a pharmaceutical syringe for dispensing medicament retained in the barrel is described. The piston includes a body defining a central face, a cylindrical portion, and an annular curved portion between the cylindrical portion and the central face portion. The piston also includes an inert film enclosing the central face portion and at least a part of the annular curved portion. The cylindrical portion and the part of the annular curved portion are together configured to maintain a fluid-tight seal with the inner wall of the barrel. A pharmaceutical syringe is described for dispensing a medicament includes a barrel configured to retain the medicament and the piston.

A pharmaceutical syringe piston having a longitudinal axis includes a body having a central face portion with a first outer circumference and maximum first diameter. A cylindrical sealing portion proximate the central face portion has first and second axial ends and a wall extending therebetween. The wall has a second outer circumference and a second diameter essentially constant along the longitudinal axis between the first and second axial ends of the cylindrical sealing portion and is larger than the maximum first diameter. An annular curved portion has a maximum outer diameter less than the second diameter and connects the first axial end of the cylindrical sealing portion to the first outer circumference. An inert film encloses the central face portion and at least part of the annular curved portion and has an outer boundary between the first axial end of the cylindrical sealing portion and the first outer circumference.

A tamper-evident closure for containers includes a closure shell having a top surface and a depending skirt. The top surface defines a first aperture therethrough and a frangible portion. The skirt defines an open lower end for engaging a container. A tamper-evident tearable member overlies the top surface of the closure shell and defines a second aperture overlying the first aperture. A removable closure cap overlies the top surface of the closure shell and the tearable member. The closure cap has an annular ring projecting downwardly from an underside of the closure cap and extending through the first and second apertures. The annular ring attaches to an underside of the frangible portion. At least partial removal of the closure cap from the top surface of the closure shell peels the frangible portion away from the top surface of the closure shell along the scoring, and tears the tamper-evident member.

Tamper evident closure for containers

A pharmaceutical syringe piston having a longitudinal axis includes a body having a central face portion with a first outer circumference and maximum first diameter. A cylindrical sealing portion proximate the central face portion has first and second axial ends and a wall extending therebetween. The wall has a second outer circumference and a second diameter essentially constant along the longitudinal axis between the first and second axial ends of the cylindrical sealing portion and is larger than the maximum first diameter. An annular curved portion has a maximum outer diameter less than the second diameter and connects the first axial end of the cylindrical sealing portion to the first outer circumference. An inert film encloses the central face portion and at least a part of the annular curved portion and has an outer boundary between the first axial end of the cylindrical sealing portion and the first outer circumference.

A tamper-evident closure () for containers includes a closure shell () having a top surface () and a depending skirt (). The top surface defines a first aperture () therethrough and a frangible portion (). The skirt defines an open lower end () for engaging a container. A tamper-evident tearable member () overlies the top surface of the closure shell and defines a second aperture () overlying the first aperture. A removable closure cap () overlies the top surface of the closure shell and the tearable member. The closure cap has an annular ring () projecting downwardly from an under-side of the closure cap and extending through the first and second apertures. The annular ring attaches to an underside of the frangible portion. At least partial removal of the closure cap from the top surface of the closure shell peels the frangible portion away from the top surface of the closure shell along the scoring, and tears the tamper-evident member.

The present invention provides a coating system for an article including a first component having a surface in frictional engagement with a surface of a second component, wherein at least a portion of at least one surface of the component(s) is coated with a coating prepared from a composition including a first, curable organopolysiloxane comprising at least two alkenyl groups; and a second, curable organopolysiloxane comprising at least two polar groups, the second organopolysiloxane being different from the first organopolysiloxane, which can provide low breakloose force when used in syringe assemblies.

Coating system, articles and assembly using the same and methods of reducing sticktion

A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) composition is provided which contains a blend of a hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer (SBC) having a number average molecular weight (Mn) greater than about 200,000 Daltons (Da), a polypropylene, a mineral oil, and at least one filler. The composition has a hardness less than about 80 Shore A and is resealable. An article produced from such a TPE composition reseals itself so as to exhibit no leakage after puncture. A method for preventing leakage in an elastomeric article involves providing an elastomeric article formed from the TPE composition, puncturing the elastomeric article by inserting a sharp object, and removing the sharp object; the article reseals itself such that no leakage occurs from the punctured article after removal of the sharp object.

The present invention provides rubber sealing members having an exterior surface adapted to sealingly engage an inner surface of a chamber of a medical device, the exterior surface of the sealing member having a coating thereon prepared from a curable composition including: (a) a first organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups; and (b) a second organopolysiloxane having at least two pendant hydrogen groups, the second organopolysiloxane being different from the first organopolysiloxane, wherein at least one of the first organopolysiloxane, the second organopolysiloxane or an optional third organopolysiloxane of the curable composition comprises a fluoro group.
