A pen needle assembly apparatus includes a housing (), a movable gripping assembly () for gripping a pen needle assembly (), and an actuator (). The housing () has a top end (), a bottom end (), and an inner cavity () for storing used pen needle assemblies. The gripping assembly () in one embodiment includes two movable jaws () that are movable to engage and grip the outer cover () of the pen needle assembly () so that the needle hub () can be separated from the outer cover () and placed back in the outer cover () after use of the pen needle. The actuator () is connected to the jaws () where movement of the actuator separates the jaws to release the outer cover of the pen needle assembly. The housing () has an opening) for engaging the inner shield () of the pen needle assembly to remove the inner shield () from the needle hub ().

Pen needle assembly apparatus

A pen needle assembly apparatus () includes a housing (), a movable support () for supporting a pen needle (), an ejector () for ejecting a used pen needle from the support, and an actuator (). The support () is rotated relative to the housing () to index the pen needles to a position where the pen needle can be accessed and coupled to a delivery device (). The used pen needle () is returned to the well () in the support and the support rotated toward the ejector () where the used pen needle is ejected to a compartment () in the housing for disposal. A cover () on the housing includes at least one opening () for accessing the pen needle when the support is rotated to position a pen needle relative to the opening in the cover.

A storage device () for storing a pen needle assembly () includes a housing () having first wells () with a dimension for receiving the pen needle assembly and second wells () for receiving an inner shield () of the pen needle assembly. The second wells () have a diameter less than a diameter of the first wells (). An ejector () in the housing () can be actuated to eject the used needle hub () and outer covers () from the first well () and the inner shield () from the second well () for disposal. A method of coupling a pen needle delivery device to a needle hub positions a needle hub assembly () in the first well () and inserts the coupling end of the delivery device () into the first well () and is coupled to the needle hub. The needle hub is pulled from the outer cover (). The inner shield () is inserted into the second well () to remove the inner shield from the needle hub.

Apparatus for mounting a pen needle assembly

A needle hub assembly for coupling to a pen needle delivery device includes an outer cover having a first well receiving the needle hub and inner shield covering a cannula of the needle hub. A second well is spaced from the first well and receives the inner shield. In use, the pen delivery device is coupled to the connecting end of the needle hub to withdraw the needle hub and inner shield from the first well. The inner shield is inserted into the second well where the inner shield is gripped so that the inner shield can be separated from the needle hub without the user handling the outer cover or the inner shield. After use, the needle hub is inserted into the first well and the pen needle delivery device is separated from the needle hub. The needle hub is retained within the first well where the outer cover containing the used needle hub and inner shield can be discarded as a single unit.
