Manners of complying with SAR limits at a user equipment (UE) configured to establish a first communication connection using a first radio and a second communication connection using a second radio. The UE determines that a first application associated with the first communication connection is to be prioritized over a second application associated with the second communication connection, determines a specific absorption rate (SAR) value associated with the UE and modifies, responsive to the SAR value associated with the UE, a parameter associated with the first radio or the second radio based on at least the priority of the first application relative to the second application.

Dynamic adjustment of transmission parameters

A device in an adaptive channel access system may include a processor that is configured initiate access of a channel, and perform a first jammer detection on the channel. The processor is configured to, when a jamming device is detected on the channel, access the channel with a channel occupancy time set to a first duration of time. The processor is configured to, when no jamming devices are detected: access the channel with the channel occupancy time set to the second duration of time that is greater than the first duration, while accessing the channel with the channel occupancy time set to the second duration of time, perform a second jammer detection on the channel, and when the jamming device is detected, cease to access the channel prior to the expiration of the second duration of time, otherwise continue to access the channel without re-initiating access of the channel.

Adaptive channel access

In order to improve communication with another electronic device, during an advertising mode an electronic device (such as a smartphone) may transmit a packet with advertising information using a default transmit power level. Then, based on feedback about a performance metric associated with the communication from the other electronic device, the electronic device may selectively increase the transmit power level for a subsequent packet. Because this selective increase in the transmit power level may increase the overall power consumption, the change in the transmit power level also may depend on one or more factors, such as a battery power level of the electronic device. However, the selective increase in the transmit power level may, in some instances, decrease the overall power consumption by reducing or eliminating retries.

Power adaptation in an electronic device

A host device is configured to increase the power output by an internal amplifier of its wireless chipset in response to requests from a remote device. Once the internal amplifier has reached its maximum power, further requests for power increases from the remove device do not similarly lead to automatic power increases being delivered by a external amplifier of the host device. Rather, the host device determines the strength of the link between it and the remote device. If the signal strength is too low, it is an indication that the signal power output by the remote device may not be sufficient to maintain the link and that any further increases in signal power by the host device will have little or no effect on the link. However, if the signal strength from the remote device is sufficient, the host device determines an error rate between it and the remote device. If the error rate is sufficiently low to maintain the link, then the host device will not further increase its signal output power. However, if the error rate is too high, the host device will turn on and/or increase power from its external amplifier to boost the power of its output signal and, thus, improve the error rate between it and the remote device.

Power adaptation based on error rate

A host device is configured to increase the power output by an internal amplifier of its wireless chipset in response to requests from a remote device coupled via a data link. Once the internal amplifier has reached its maximum power, the host device may determine the strength of the data link between it and the remote device. If the strength is low, it is an indication that further increases in signal power by the host device may have little effect on the link. If the signal strength from the remote device is sufficient, the host device determines an error rate. If the error rate is sufficiently low, the host device will not increase its signal output power. However, if the error rate is too high, the host device may increase power from its external amplifier to improve the error rate of the data link.

To establish a connection between electronic devices some embodiments include a system, method, and/or computer program product for password pairing user-interface devices in wireless proximity. A first electronic device (e.g., a keyboard) transmits an advertising packet, and receives a password, where the password has been generated by a second electronic device (e.g., a smartphone) and the password enables pairing between the first electronic device and the second electronic device. The first electronic device transmits a message including the password to the second electronic device, where the second electronic device is within a predefined range of the first electronic device. In some embodiments the first device receives a command from the second electronic device to transition to a discovery mode, transitions to the discovery mode, and transmits a confirmation to the second electronic device that the first device is in the discovery mode.

Wireless proximity password pairing of user-interface devices

Devices at either end of a wireless communication link are each configured to support multiple different link settings. During communication, a device that is receiving data can monitor the signal quality and initiate a dynamic transition to a new link setting if performance of the current link setting falls below a lower threshold or exceeds an upper threshold. Dynamic link adaptation can be implemented within a wireless communication interface of the device and can be transparent to application and/or operating system software executing on the device.

Dynamic link adaptation for improved link margin

In order to establish a connection between electronic devices, after receiving an advertising packet from another electronic device, an electronic device compares a performance metric associated with the communication with the other electronic device with a threshold value. Based on the comparison, the electronic device provides pairing-intent information specifying a pairing intent for the electronic device and the other electronic device for presentation by the other electronic device. Moreover, after receiving additional pairing-intent information specifying the pairing intent from the other electronic device, the electronic device establishes the connection with the other electronic device when the additional pairing-intent information matches the pairing-intent information. For example, the pairing intent may include a gesture and/or a sequence of one or more characters, and the additional pairing-intent information may include: the sequence of one or more characters; accelerometer data corresponding to the gesture; and/or user-interface data corresponding to the gesture.
