The invention relates to a device for detecting the corrosion induced by a medium on a structure. The device comprises a chamber () closed by a closing disc () made of such a material that the disc becomes permeable to the medium once corroded by the medium, and means for measuring the refractive index of the medium present in the chamber. According to a preferred embodiment, an optical fiber is used to measure the refractive index variation.

In order to increase the cracking corrosion resistance of a wire under stress compressive stresses are introduced through surface treatment by brushing, on the apparent surface of the wire. A system and method are notably applied for the manufacture of wire-reinforced flexible pipes. The reinforcing wires are subjected to a surface treatment by brushing after setting the wires on the flexible pipe.

Apparatus comprising furnaces, reactors or conduits used in applications requiring anti-coking properties and novel steel compositions

The present invention relates to a flexible tubular pipe for carrying fluids under pressure containing H S and to a method for designing such a flexible pipe. The pipe includes a body ( ), an internal sealing sheath ( ), at least one steel armouring layer ( ) withstanding the stresses induced by the inside/outside pressure difference, and at least one traction-resisting steel armouring layer ( ) spirally wound at an angle less than 45&deg; in relation to the axis of the pipe. In this pipe, at least the armouring layer withstanding the stresses induced by the inside/outside pressure difference is made of a determined steel meeting H S resistance criteria, and at least the traction-resisting armouring layer is made from steel wires that do not meet H S resistance criteria.

The present invention relates to a method for predicting and controlling the hydrogen corrosion and embrittlement behavior of steels in the presence of H,S. In the method, at least the following stages are carried out: determining a characteristic value l,which is a function of the proportion of dislocations present in the lattice of a first steel sample treated under hardening conditions such that, after the hardening treatment, by quenching and tempering or by work hardening, the hardness of said steel reaches a maximum value at a threshold stress &sgr;,such that &sgr;,equals k&middot;R,k being less than or equal to Rp,of said steel; determining a characteristic value l,which is a function of the proportion of dislocations present in the lattice of a second treated steel sample; and comparing l,and l,, and if l,is less than or equal to l,, the treated steel of the second sample is said to be non sensitive to hydrogen corrosion and embrittlement in the presence of H,S according to the criterion defined by the value of k.
