The present disclosure relates to a method of manufacturing a 3D printed object. The method comprises treating an outer surface of a 3D printed object with a dye condensing solvent vapour on the treated outer surface; and dissolving a portion of the treated outer surface in the condensed solvent to reduce the surface roughness of the 3D printed object.

Manufacturing 3D printed objects

A method is described in which a part is placed within a chamber. Vaporized solvent is provided within the chamber such that the solvent condenses onto and treats the part. A vacuum is then applied to the chamber to extract the solvent and stop the treatment. The vacuum is controlled such that a pressure within the chamber over time has a predefined profile to prevent defects in the part from occurring due to the extraction of solvent from the part.

Treatment of parts by vaporized solvent

The present disclosure relates to a method of manufacturing a 3D printed object. The method comprises condensing solvent vapour on an outer surface of the 3D printed object. The 3D printed object comprises polymer and radiation absorber. The outer surface of the 3D printed object a) comprises pores that absorb the solvent and b) has a surface roughness, Ra, of greater than 5 μm. The method also comprises dissolving a portion of the 3D printed object to tailor the surface roughness, Ra, of the 3D printed object to a value of from 0.5 to 4 μm.

Apparatus is described comprising a hermetically sealable treatment chamber, a pump and a disperser. The treatment chamber comprises an interior into which an article to be treated can be disposed. The pump is in fluidic communication with the interior of the treatment chamber to form a closed loop about which a dispersed treatment agent can circulate. The disperser is disposed within the closed loop and is arranged to disperse a treatment agent into the interior of the treatment chamber.

In an example, a wiper system includes a first wiper blade, a second wiper blade, and a cam. In that example, the cam is coupled to the first wiper blade to move the first wiper blade to a first wipe position when the cam is in a first cam position and coupled to the second wiper blade to move the second wiper blade to a second wipe position when the cam is in a second cam position.

A printer may comprise a printhead comprising a number of nozzles, an immiscible fluid applicator, and a processor to instruct the immiscible fluid applicator to apply immiscible fluid onto the surface of the printhead to cap the number of nozzles. A printer subassembly may comprise an immiscible fluid applicator to wipe a layer of immiscible fluid onto a surface of a printhead. A printer may comprise a page wide array printhead, an immiscible fluid applicator to wipe a layer of immiscible fluid over a printhead to cap nozzles over the width of the printhead, and a controller to instruct the printhead to print after the layer of immiscible fluid has been applied over the printhead so that ink ejects through the immiscible fluid while non-used nozzles remain capped by the immiscible fluid layer.

In an example, a wiper system includes a first wiper blade, a second wiper blade, and a liquid dispenser. In that example, the liquid dispenser is oriented to eject liquid towards a cloth area across from the first wiper blade when the first wiper blade is in a rest position and the second wiper blade is in a service position.

According to an example, a recoater for a three-dimensional (3D) printer may include a cylindrical element having a surface to spread build material particles. The build material particles may have a specified average dimension and the surface may include a plurality of depressions that have dimensions that are smaller than the specified average dimension of the build material particles.

A printing system may comprise a page wide array printhead a capping station, and a number of modular caps comprising a housing to cover a nozzle array of a printhead and a cap coupler coupled to the housing to couple the cap to the nozzle array in which the modular caps are adapted to be coupled to and removed from the nozzle array of the printhead and stored in the capping station.

Methods and apparatus to control a heater associated with a printing nozzle are disclosed. A method comprising controlling a heater associated with a printing nozzle to reduce a heat output of the heater based on a determination that the printing nozzle is outside a print area and printing an image on a substrate using other printing nozzles while the heat output of the heater is reduced.

An ink aerosol filtration system includes an inlet, a filtration chamber communicated with the inlet and including at least one filter member, and an airflow source communicated with the filtration chamber to generate flow into the inlet, through the filtration chamber and through the at least one filter member, wherein the airflow source is controlled to maintain substantially constant pressure at the inlet.

In one implementation, a substance removal apparatus may include a collection unit and a removal unit. The collection unit may have a structure forming a channel and an inlet to receive an exhaust from a print system. The removal unit may separate a substance from the exhaust and transfer heat from the exhaust to the print system. The removal unit may include a heat exchanger and an impaction mechanism.

In one example, an air barrier system for a printhead assembly includes a source of pressurized air and multiple channels operatively connected to the air source to channel multiple streams of air between two printheads in the printhead assembly.

Ink separators are described herein. One example ink separator is described, which includes an ink receptacle to receive ink aerosol particles, a surface within the ink receptacle to change a direction of an airflow entraining the ink aerosol particles and cause at least a portion of the ink aerosol particles to combine to form ink droplets on the surface, and a chamber adjacent the surface to receive the airflow including the ink droplets and at least some of the ink aerosol particles, wherein the chamber includes at least two flow paths to separate the airflow and the ink aerosol particles from the ink droplets by directing the airflow and the ink aerosol particles to an aerosol collection port and the ink droplets to an ink droplet collection port.

In one embodiment, a servicing article comprises a web comprising a first material impregnated with a servicing fluid, the servicing fluid including a solvent that does not evaporate at ambient printer conditions, and a plurality of physical barriers within the first material, extending approximately across the first material's width, to restrict servicing fluid migration lengthwise along the web.
