A method for locating an impairment within a telecommunication line may include determining measurement data related to the telecommunication line and estimating a location of the impairment depending on the measurement data. The measurement data includes crosstalk data including at least one transfer function element of a crosstalk matrix. The transfer function element characterizes a crosstalk transfer function from the telecommunication line towards the at least one further telecommunication line, and the method includes detecting oscillations in the crosstalk transfer function.

Method and device for locating an impairment within a telecommunication line

The present invention refers to a method and device for detecting a bridged tap within a telecommunication line. In order to reliably detect bridged taps of different types, in particular wire pair bridged taps and single wire bridged taps, and/or to determine a type of each detected bridged tap the method includes determining first transfer function data that characterize an actual transfer function of the telecommunication line; detecting the bridged tap depending on the first transfer function data; simulating the telecommunication line based on a result of the detecting; and identifying the type of the bridged tap by comparing results of the simulating with the first transfer function data.

Method and device for detecting a bridged tap within a telecommunication line

In one embodiment, the method includes determining at least one value that depends on an attenuation of a signal transmitted over a telecommunication line to a DSL modem or received over the telecommunication line from the DSL modem; detecting depending on the value that the DSL modem is coupled with the telecommunication line via a DSL splitter in such a way that the DSL modem is connected to a different connector of the DSL splitter than a modem connector of the DSL splitter, which modem connector is intended for being connected with the DSL modem; determining a loop length value of the telecommunication line; and determining a threshold depending on the loop length value, wherein the detecting is based on comparing the threshold with the value.
