A gas generator for an airbag includes a first gas reserve with a first orifice, a first mechanism arranged for opening the first gas reserve, and a diffusion chamber arranged for diffusing the discharge gases. The generator additionally includes a mixing chamber comprising at least one first communication surface with the diffusion chamber. The gas generator further including a second mechanism comprising a second actuator and a mobile obturator between a first obstruction position, in which it obstructs a second communication surface with a diffusion chamber and a second passage position, in which the second communication surface is free.

The present invention related to a pyrotechnic gas generator intended for motor vehicle safety, comprising a sealed housing (), which contains: &#x2014;at least one combustion chamber (C) containing a pyrotechnic charge (), the combustion of which is initiated by an initiator () associated with the chamber; &#x2014;at least one plenum chamber (T) for receiving the gases generated by the combustion of the charge () for removing them to the exterior, via at least one discharge aperture () formed in said housing (). It is characterized in that said housing () also contains means (R) for temporarily storing at least some of the combustion gases.

The present invention relates to a gas generator for a motor vehicle safety device, the generator comprising:. a first chamber (C) for combustion containing a pyrotechnic initiator () and a pyrotechnic charge () whose combustion is triggered by said initiator; and. a second chamber (D) for diffusion into which the gas that results from combustion of said charge () is transferred prior to being exhausted to the outside; these two chambers (C, D) being separated from each other by a 'nozzle' partition () presenting at least one communication orifice (). According to the invention, said diffusion chamber (D) is provided with a piston () suitable for closing or not closing said orifice () as a function of the gas pressure in the combustion chamber (C), said piston () being urged to its position for closing the orifice () by a mass () of elastically deformable material, said mass () presenting stiffness that varies as a function of temperature, said stiffness decreasing with increasing temperature.

The present invention relates to a gas generator device used in automobile safety to inflate an airbag. This device is characterized in that it comprises at least one gas source for inflating the airbag and at least one gas outlet orifice, called the first orifice, for gas to flow into the airbag, characterized in that it includes means for making the gas pass through other gas outlet orifices, called second orifices, which are distributed over the device so that it is given a neutral-thrust configuration when it is initiated, although not in service, the device also including means for closing off these second orifices when the device is in service, so that when the device is initiated, the gas passes via the first outlet orifice.
