An inking unit for printing units of rotary presses is independent of the printing unit and is configured as a self-contained unit. A device for metering and equalizing an ink layer on the surface of a printing machine roller, in particular on the surface of an ink applicator roller in the inking unit of a printing machine, the surface being additionally wetted with dampening medium. The device contains at least two doctor blades which are arranged preferably at a short distance one behind the other in the direction of rotation of the roller and rest under pressure against the surface of the roller and of which a front doctor blade, with respect to the direction of rotation of the roller, has a doctor blade edge radius such that essentially only the dampening medium, but not the ink layer, can be wiped off from the surface of the roller by said front doctor blade, while a rear doctor blade, with respect to the direction of rotation of the roller, has, by comparison, a smaller doctor blade edge radius such that at least part of the ink layer which has remained on the surface of the roller can be wiped off.

The present invention provides a smoothing roller for a printing unit of a rotary printing machine. The smoothing roller is applied to the form cylinder downstream of the ink applicator roller in relation to the direction of rotation of the form cylinder or onto the ink applicator roller itself. The smoothing roller smooths the ink film on the form cylinder or on the ink applicator roller. The outer surface of the smoothing roller has an ink-repelling characteristic. The ink-repelling characteristic is effected by a liquid ink-repelling material such as a separating agent or a dampening medium that is applied to the outer surface of the smoothing roller or by an outer surface of the smoothing roller comprising an ink-repelling material. The two measures for effecting the ink-repellant characteristic of the smoothing roller may also be provided in combination with one another.

An inking device in a printing machine with an ink body filled with printing ink and with a blade. The blade can also be a chamber blade, for example. For temperature moderation, an insulation plate or a heat dissipation plate, by which the temperature of the blade can be adjusted, is arranged on the blade. The heat created by friction between the upper edge of the blade and the surface of the cup roller does not penetrate into the ink duct due to the insulation plate and the heat dissipation plate, so that heating of the printing ink is avoided.

Inking device for a printing machine

A rotary printing machine in which cylinders are uncovered by a swinging door or a removable flap. Journals are separated from the cylinder bodies and remain, together with bearings arranged in the door or the flap. At a separation point the journals have truncated conical projections which are inserted into corresponding truncated conical depressions in the end face of the cylinder body.

A gripper cylinder configurable as a printing cylinder of a sheet-fed printing machine, a feeder drum in a sheet-fed printing machine, or a gripper cylinder in a folder unit. The gripper cylinder includes a stationary stator and a gripper spindle assembly mounted to the cylinder. The gripper spindle assembly includes a gripper pivotably mounted to a gripper support. Instead of using a mechanical cam, the gripper can be controllably pivoted together with a cam roller by an armature that can be magnetized but is not permanently magnetic when an electric current flows through the stator thereby magnetizing a housing of the stator. The armature may be magnetically urged against the restoring force of a spring.

Gripper cylinder

A device for repairing a cylinder in a printing machine while the cylinder is installed in the printing machine. The device includes a cross slide rail having a base body with longitudinal guides, a longitudinal support slidably mounted on the longitudinal guides, and a transverse support connected to the longitudinal support. The cross slide rail is removably mounted to side walls of the printing machine so as to be parallel to a longitudinal axis of the cylinder to be repaired. A pull spindle is rotatably mounted to the base body and operatively connected to the longitudinal support so that the rotation of the pull spindle moves the longitudinal support along the longitudinal guides of the base body. A tool holder is connected to the transverse support for carrying a tool for working the cylinder. A mechanism for driving the cylinder is also provided.

Device for in situ repairing of a cylinder in a printing machine

A form cylinder (1) for use in a printing machine including at least one cassette (40) and preferably multiple cassettes (40 to 43), each of which is removable from the form cylinder (1) through an opening (37) in a side wall (2). Each of the cassettes contains winding rollers (4) and a printing form extending between the winding rollers. The winding rollers are driven by an externally positioned driving device such as an electric motor (3) to wind and unwind the printing form. The winding rollers are connected to the driving device by a coupling (12) which is movable between an engaged position in which a shaft of each winding roller is connected to a shaft associated with the driving device and an unengaged position in which the winding rollers are not connected to the driving device.

To provide a pre-bending stress on a shaft (1) supporting a plurality of bearings (2, 3) which, in turn, support a roller sleeve (4), the shaft is fitted at the end portions thereof into a sleeve (5) formed with radial projections (6, 7). The sleeve is pivotably retained in a support holder (8, 9) having projecting jaws (8), fitting around the projections (6, 7) of the sleeve. Coupling pins or bolts (13) pivotably or tiltably interconnect the sleeve and the jaws. To provide a pre-stressing tilt against the ends of the shaft, engagement or adjustment screws (18, 19) can lock the projections (6, 7) extending from the coupling sleeve (5) in predetermined pivoted or tilted position with respect to the side walls (11) of the machine, to which the support holder (9) is secured. Preferably, a part-spherical interposed coupling is located between a head and counter nut of the adjustment bolts.
