The present invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for extending the shelf life of an initiated monomer mixture, the method comprising the prevention of premature free radical polymerisation by introducing oxygen or oxygen-containing gas into a container of the initiated monomer mixture and providing mechanical agitation to the container, wherein said introduction and agitation are performed in a temperature and pressure controlled environment.

Method and apparatus for delaying polymerisation

Method for minimizing the sorption of tear lipids on frequent replacement, or extended-wear, contact lenses, the method comprising (a) contacting the contact lens selected from the group consisting of senofilcon A, lotrafilcon A, lotrafilcon B, and comfilcon A B with a lens care solution for a period of at least three hours to minimize the accumulation of tear lipids on the contact lens. The lens care solution comprises 0.5 ppm to 10 ppm &#x3b1;-[4-tris(2-hydroxyethyl)-ammonium chloride-2-butenyl]poly[1-dimethyl ammonium chloride-2-butenyl]-&#x3c9;-tris(2-hydroxyethyl) ammonium chloride; citrate, citric acid or a mixture thereof; and 0.005 wt. % to 0.05 wt. % hyaluronic acid. The method also includes (b) inserting the soaked contact lens into one's eye, and (c) repeating steps (a) and (b).

Minimizing biological lipid deposits on contact lenses

Sterilized aqueous solution comprising 0.04% to 0.8% by weight hyaluronic acid with a weight average molecular weight from 0.6 MDa to 3.6 MDa, and one or more buffer components selected from the group consisting of boric acid, sodium borate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate. The aqueous solution also has an ionic strength equivalent to an aqueous concentration of sodium chloride from 4% to 18% by weight of sodium chloride and a pH from 6.4 to 7.2. The solution is also filtered through a filter medium that has an average pore size of 0.25 &#x3bc;m or less to provide a sterilized high salt, hyaluronic acid solution.

Sterile hyaluronic acid solutions

A process for sterilizing a solution comprising hyaluronic acid. The process comprises providing an aqueous solution of hyaluronic acid with a weight average molecular weight from 0.6 MDa to 3.6 MDa, and the concentration of the hyaluronic acid is from 0.04% to 0.8% by weight. The aqueous solution also has an ionic strength equivalent to an aqueous concentration of sodium chloride from 3% to 30% by weight. Once the aqueous, high salt, hyaluronic acid solution is prepared the solution is maintained at a temperature from 40&#xb0; C. to 80&#xb0; C. for at least 1 hour and not longer than six days. Following the heat treatment step, the aqueous solution is filtered through a sterilization filter medium to provide a sterilized high salt, hyaluronic acid solution.

The present invention is directed to a composition for treating dry eye comprising, in one embodiment, carboxymethylcellulose and a polyol. Such compositions have been found to alleviate the symptoms of dry eye and remain in the eye for a long period of time.
