A method for producing trimethylene carbonate poly(trimethylene carbonate which comprises (a) introducing liquid poly(trimethylene carbonate) and an optional catalyst into a wiped film evaporator reactor under a vacuum about 15 kPa or less, said reactor having walls heated to at least about 230&#xb0; C. and an internal condenser heated to a temperature above the boiling point of trimethylene carbonate, (b)spreading the poly(trimethylene carbonate) into a thin film and allowing it to flow down the interior surface of the heated walls, (c) depolymerizing the poly(trimethylene carbonate) to form trimethylene carbonate which is driven to the internal condenser and residue poly(trimethylene carbonate) which continues down the reactor, and (d) collecting the trimethylene carbonate in a cooled distillate receiver.

Disclosed is a new class of TPUs with improved properties, based on poly(1,3-propanediol carbonate) diol, using 10 to 55% hard segment concentration, and cured with a diisocyanate. Disclosed is a process for the production of poly(trimethylene carbonate) which comprises reacting trimethylene carbonate, a catalyst, and an alcohol, preferably a polyhydric alcohol, under nitrogen at atmospheric pressure and a moderate temperature, in a stoichiometric ratio to give the desired molecular weight of poly(trimethylene carbonate) in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of a salt, preferably an acetate, of an element of Group IA or IIA of the Periodic Table. In an alternative embodiment, high molecular weight poly(trimethylene carbonate) is produced without the use of an initiator, using the same catalyst and longer reaction times.

Also disclosed in a related embodiment is a melamine/urea formaldehyde polytrimethylene carbonate coating composition that is prepared without acrylic.

High gloss acrylic coatings with improved impact resistance cured with melamine

A tire has on its inner surface on elastomeric air barrier coating, which is formed by photocuring a composition comprising: (a) an end capped prepolymer (MW 2500-10,000) formed by reacting a polyester diol (MW750-1500) with a diisocyanate, and reacting the resulting diisocyanate terminated prepolymer with an end group forming compound; (b) one or more monofunctional addition polymerizable monomers; and (c) a photoinitiator or mixture thereof. In preferred embodiments, the polyester diol is hydroxyl terminated ethylene adipate, the diisocyanate is TDI, and the end group forming compound is 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The monofunctional monomer may be or include N-vinyl-pyrrolidone (NVP). The air barrier coating has high elongation, low modulus, good heat aging resistance and good adhesion to the tire in addition to low oxygen permeability.

A tire has on its inner surface an elastomeric air barrier coating, which is formed by photocuring a compositioin comprising: (a) an end capped prepolymer (MW 2500-10,000) formed by reacting a polyester diol (MW750-1500) with a diisocyanate, and reacting the resulting diisocyanate terminated prepolymer with an end group forming compound; (b) one or more monofunctional addition polymerizable monomers; and (c) a photoinitiator or mixture thereof. In preferred embodiments, the polyester diol is hydroxyl terminated ethylene adipate, the diisocyanate is TDI, and the end group forming compound is 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylane (HEMA). The monofunctional monomer may be or include N-vinyl-pyrrolidone (NVP). This invention specifically relates to blends of grossly incompatible polymers (polyethylene terephthalate and rubber) which are blended with a dispersion stabilizer (compatibilizing agent) to obtain optimum properties, particularly impact strength. The dispersion stabilizers disclosed herein are alkenyl succinic anhydrides wherein said alkenyl group contains from 8 to 30 carbon atoms; alkyl succinic anhydrides wherein said alkyl group contains from 8 to 30 carbon atoms; and dimers, oligomers, and polymers of the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein x and y are integers, wherein R and Z can be the same or different, wherein R and Z are selected from the group consisting of alkyl moieties containing from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, alkenyl moieties containing from 2 to 30 carbon atoms, and hydrogen, wherein the total number of carbon atoms in R and Z is between 8 and 30, and wherein the  indicates that the repeat units can be distributed in any order.

A method is provided which comprises preparing a drawn, coated polyester yarn by applying an aqueous emulsion of an epoxy resin and spin finish fiber treatment oil to spun or drawn yarn, said oil is comprised of a mixture of pentaerythritol tetraester (C.sub.12 -C.sub.14) fatty acid, polyoxy ethylene nonyl phenol and oleyl diethyl imidazoleimium sulfate.
