In a hair styling device () having a two-dimensional array () of elements to bring hair at a styling temperature, the elements produce optical radiation energy. The elements may include one or more LEDs, and preferably a plurality of LEDs, in which case the LEDS are driven in clusters that may be of mutually different shapes and sizes. The hair styling device () further comprises sensors to obtain an areal light absorption measurement opposed to the two-dimensional array of elements, and a control unit for individually controlling the elements in dependence of the measurement. The sensors may be arranged for measuring an areal light density profile of a whole treatment area. The hair styling device may radiate hair from two sides, both of which includes an areal light absorption measurement. The sensors may include LEDs that do not produce light.

Hair styling device

A hair care device () comprises a heat source () for heating hair up till a first temperature that is no more than 150&#xb0; C. (and thus lower than a critical temperature at which hair cuticle damage will occur), and a radiation source () for&#x2014;in combination with heat from the heat source ()&#x2014;selectively heating a hair cortex to a second temperature exceeding the first temperature and sufficiently high for hair styling.

Hair care device

There is provided a system () and method for determining a water or lipid level of skin. The system () comprises at least two electrodes () suitable for contacting skin, and a signal generator () configured to generate an electrical signal at a frequency across the at least two electrodes (). The system () is configured to measure a conductivity between the at least two electrodes (). The system () is further configured to determine a water or lipid level of skin based on the measured conductivity and the frequency of the electrical signal.

Determining a water and a lipid level of skin

There is provided a system () and method for determining a water or lipid level of skin. The system () comprises at least two electrodes () suitable for contacting skin, and a signal generator () configured to generate an electrical signal at a frequency across the at least two electrodes (). The system () is configured to measure a permittivity between the at least two electrodes (). The system () is further configured to determine a water or lipid level of skin based on the measured permittivity and the frequency of the electrical signal.

Determining a water or lipid level of skin

In a hair styling device (), a light emitting diode () is configured to deliver optical energy to hair, wherein an energy fluence of the optical energy is between 0.5 and 9 J/cm, and more preferably between 1 and 5 J/cm. The light emitting diode () is pulse-driven, and a pulse width of the optical energy is at least 50 ms. An output wavelength of the optical energy may be between 400 and 900 nm. The pulse width of the optical energy is preferably between 50 and 300 ms. The hair styling device () may comprise an optical shield () configured to block stray light during light exposure of the hair. An inner surface of the optical shield () may be reflective and/or may have a parabolic shape. The optical shield () may be movable between an open position in which a lock of hair can be placed in the hair styling device () while the optical energy is not applied, and a closed position in which light is prevented from escaping the hair styling device () while the optical energy is applied to the hair. The hair styling device may be a hair straightener having opposing first and second straightening surfaces, of which at least the first straightening surface comprises the light emitting diode (), and at least the second straightening surface is arranged for reflecting light from the light emitting diode ().

Hair styling

A light-emitting device () is disclosed. The light-emitting device () comprises a plurality of light-emitting elements () or light sources and a power module () adapted to selectively convey, supply or provide electrical power to the light-emitting elements (). The power module () may be dimensioned such as to be able to power only a proper subset of the light-emitting elements () of the light-emitting device () at a given time, the subset having a maximum number of light-emitting elements () included therein with respect to the number of light-emitting elements () included in the all subsets of the light-emitting elements () of the light-emitting device (). The plurality of sets of light-emitting elements () maybe arranged so as to emit light over a light emission area, and the plurality of sets of light-emitting elements () may be arranged relatively to each other such that different sets of light-emitting elements () emit light over different portions of the light emission area.

Light-emitting device and photo-therapy device comprising a light-emitting device

A light emitting device for application near mammal tissue includes a flexible body having a front surface for facing the mammal tissue and an opposing back surface. The flexible body accommodates at least one light source which is arranged for irradiating an irradiation area of the mammal tissue.
