The present application relates to methods for determining the proportion or quantity of DNA contributed by individual animals to a volume of milk collected from a plurality of individual animals, wherein the method employs allele sampling for DNA sequence polymorphisms in DNA extracted from a sample of the volume of milk by shallow whole genome sequencing (SWGS). The present methods are useful for example in detecting mastitis or subclinical mastitis in animals contributing milk to the volume of milk.

Methods involving nucleic acid analysis of milk

This invention relates to methods for the detection of a bovine that is affected by or carrier of brachyspina. It is based on the identification of a 3.3 Kb deletion in the bovine FANCI gene that is shown to cause the brachyspina syndrome. The present invention provides methods and uses for determining whether a bovine is affected by or carrier of brachyspina by analyzing its genomic DNA or its RNA. The methods can be used to perform marker assisted selection or genomic selection for increased fertility in said bovine.

The present invention provides a method of genotyping bovine for improved milk production traits by determining the GHR genotypic state of said bovine, wherein the GHR gene and polymorphisms within said gene have been found to be associated with such improved milk production traits.
