A tractor has a controller and at least one sensor-for sensing at least one swath line of crop material corresponding to a quantity of crop material per unit length of a swath. The controller operates in dependence on at least one output of the at least one sensor to operate a steering mechanism of the tractor such that a baler towed by the tractor follows a said swath line in a manner aligning ingestion of crop material into the baler for baling. The at least one sensor is operable to sense a swath line that is laterally offset from the direction of forward movement of the tractor.

Tractor-baler combinations

A planar tine plate having a number of tines. The tine plate is configured to be arranged on a rotor shaft of a rotor cutter apparatus of an agricultural baler. The tine plate is for moving or conveying crop material collected by the agricultural baler, for example by a pickup apparatus of the agricultural baler. The tine plate has at least one first tine and at least one second tine spaced angularly from the at least one first tine. The at least one first tine has a length greater than that of the at least one second tine. An increase in the cleaning efficiency and the crop conveying efficiency of an area to be swept by the tine plate as the rotor shaft rotates may be achieved.

A pickup unit for an agricultural baler. The pickup unit includes a frame; a pickup roll carried by the frame; and a windrow conditioning roll carried by the frame and positioned in front of the pickup roll when in an operating position. The windrow conditioning roll includes a center core and a pair of counter-rotating flightings surrounding the center core. The counter-rotating flightings are connected together in a manner such that wrapping of crop material around the windrow conditioning roll is inhibited.

A pickup unit for an agricultural harvesting machine includes a frame; a pickup roll carried by the frame; and a feed assist roll carried by the frame and positioned adjacent to the pickup roll. The feed assist roll has a plurality of radially outwardly extending cleats spaced apart around a periphery thereof, and a plurality of extension plates. Each extension plate is removably attached to and extends a corresponding cleat.

An agricultural baler comprising a main bale chamber having a pair of opposed side walls. Each side wall includes a plunger slot arrangement defining a plunger slot. Each plunger slot has opposite ends and is open at both an inside adjacent to a plunger and an opposite outside. The plunger is reciprocally disposed within the main bale chamber, and includes a pair of opposed sides and at least one roller extending laterally outward from each side. Each roller is positioned within a respective plunger slot. The baler is characterized by a pair of plunger slot covers, with each cover only partially covering a respective outside of a corresponding plunger slot such that each end of the plunger slot is uncovered.

Rectangular baler comprising a bale chamber adapted to contain one or more bales; a compacting plunger for advancing crop material in a discharge direction towards a discharge opening of the bale chamber; wherein at least one friction block is fixed on an inner side of a wall of the bale chamber; the or each friction block comprising a wedge shaped part having an inclined surface extending from the inner side of the wall in the discharge direction.
